So Halibrand was sold in 79. But did the new owner stay in Torrance or go elsewhere then? The estimate that is hinted at in the first post says 15 years before the post date, which is 2011. Or 1996 . And when did the use of tapered axles end and splined axles start? The one I am working with was a tapered axle version. So probably somewhere around the 70s, but could be as new as 95 or 96, ie 26 years old at the newest. And as old as 60 years give or take a year or two.

    That’s a big window.

Halibrand was handed around a bit, I have wheels from two of those locations, San Diego area and Wellington Kansas
    .
A shame the last guy tanked such a storied and respected company!
A Google search will produce the players and timeline.

So the last piece of the puzzle is in the works. Thanks Dennis.

Probably won’t get around to working on this rear axle for a few weeks now, we had another health issue just in time for the holidays. SWMBO is currently in hospital and will be coming back home tomorrow midday. There will likely be a few follow-up doctor’s appointments and some more physical therapy. And I’m getting the daily driver modified with a p***enger seat lift device to make it easier on both of us getting her in and out of the car. For those who may be interested, when it’s done, I’ll post over in the off topic area a couple of pictures.

So, this particular part of the project is on hold until we get back to a new normal…
