Hello all, iam curious if anyone has ever out in 60s style master cyl/booster firewall mounted in a 55 or 56 Buick. My Buick special is drum/drum and a original power brake car. The treadle vac was gone form the car and don't plan on going that route. I'm not looking to go complete resto on the car. Will something like work? http://www.speedwaymotors.com/8-Inch-Dual-Brake-Booster,9557.html
What have you used? Let's talk. Thanks everyone, and happy new year!

If it were me, I would call ECI brake in Ct. I had a 56 Olds here with the stock under floor master, and I am sure ECI would have something that would fit mine, and would have the correct master for drums.

Thanks man, I'll see what's up

  4. you are going to have to remove the air duct housing, make a plate to cover the hole, and then hang some swing pedals. i used a set from speedway, but if i did it again i would get a set out of a '70's-'80's era gm. tying the firewall to the dash, where the column mounts to the dash will stop any firewall flex.

See I love that look, did you get the booster from speedway too? The air duct covers are already gone so that will be easy, and I know what you mean about the supporting of the firewall.as far as I've heard the flex could be bad if not done.

the way I did mine is
speedway kit bb/mc and pedel i think it was $229

3/8 steel plate takes place of the cover
I used all bolt holes that were in the firwall.
It seemed to be pretty solid just like that

there is a bracket that came ith the kit that I bolted to the bottom of my dash.
I did that just for a little extra strength.

Damn that sounds good, you don't have links to actually what you got on there? I'm finding a lot on speedway. Someone had mentioned having a 8 inch booster

I used the peddle assembly out of a '79 Cad Seville and a tilt column from a '78 Chevy van for the conversion on my '50 Olds 88... Had to do a lot of modifications to the firewall, removing air ducts and creating a flat area for the peddle assembly/booster to mount to...
I prefer to use factory parts for these kind of conversions, that way any parts, neutral safety switch, turn signal switch, booster, peddle pads, etc., are all stock GM parts..

It took me an afternoon to mount it with only making 2 cuts to fit it through the vent in the fire wall.

I like GM parts too thats why I used my GM drums and and suspension:cool:

Yea everything with the Buick is gm, obviously.haha the whole brakes thing are new to me so it's good to talk to someone who will actually talk to me about it. I think I need to go with a 8 inch booster to provide enough braking power to stop the car.

If you plate off the duct work on the firewall does that disable the complete heater system? I assume you would swap to a vintage air or smaller under dash unit? I have a 55 buick that I plan on updating the braking system, just got the car so I have not dug into it yet.

  18. you will loose the fresh air vent on the drivers side.
