Questions about straight axle shortening - 65 Fairlane

    check with the oldeconoline groups they have guys that are selling kits to put disc brakes on the 62-67 econoline I had a couple for a while and kept up with the forums last year. Ed ke6bnl

    I narrowed an Econoline front axle 7" for a '23 project. To get more weld area, when I cut it I left the center of the beam on one side extended beyond the flanges. Then on the other side I cut the center away, so as to make a sort of "male" sand "female" end on each half .Chamfered all the way around the edges, put it together, aligned it, pre-heated, welded with 9018, and cooled slowly. Didn't even use additional reinforcing plates as it was going in a 1600 lb car and already overkill.

    This is going to be a neat build, keep posting pics. long drive and short time but would be neat to see at the HAMB drags in Aug. Bruce

    hey man nice project im working on my 65 straight axle as we speek . but im considerin buying a speedway straight tube front end
