Since installing my motor, I no longer have room for a vacuum brake booster, and am going to install a hydroboost.

I was looking at the Bendix hydroboost models, and see that some have reliefs, and other do not. I ***ume that this (the relief) is to keep a uniform pressure in the hydroboost and its ac***ulator. Is this is what the relief is for? I am using a 2002 Camaro PS pump. Does it have an internal relief? Failing this, is there an external relief that could be purchased?

Also I have seen different bore sizes for the Bendix Hydroboost models. I understand a bigger bore size will have more boost. Is there a known hydroboost bore size that works well with something like the weight a 3500# vehicle?

I am using C5 calipers front and rear.

maybe one from a late 70s to early 80s midsize GM diesel powered car?

  3. Alot of guys building OT stuff like early Camaros, etc are using hydroboost units from Astro vans. Very easy to find in any salvage yard.

I have found that there are two hydroboost models in the Astro vans, one with a relief, and one without.

I have no idea whch one to get or why.

  5. Are you running power steering also? We were told the system won't work with a manual rack.

There are different ac***ulators for disc/disc and disc/drum hydro boost

  7. That would be wrong. The reason that you see the two combined is this: power steering REQUIRES pressurised hydraulic fluid, brakes can be either/or (hydro or vacuum).
Soooo, if the vehicle is manual steering, you get vacuum boost (yes, even on diesels, via separate pump), BUT, w/PS, the pump is there, so the brakes get hydro-boost.

Yet the incidence of the pair does not mean they HAVE to be together to work. Pressure is pressure, and pressure is what you need to operate either, whether or not they are together.
