ok just did my front brakes ( new wheel cylinders, springs, hold down kit, adjuster stars, hoses, shoes and linings) when i put on the adjuster star and spring, the spring is sitting on top of the adjuster not like the photo below of one of the brakes where the spring and star "mesh". my question is if they are supposed to mesh, which i believe so, and how to get them to "mesh" without taking everything off. thank you for the help, this is my first brake job.

...usually that spring has a strate section on one end, that end goes towards the star wheel end and clears the star wheel so as not to interfere with the star wheel. You sure you have the correct spring there?

what rusty 1 says is true if they are the self adjusting type brake which yours doesnt appear to be in which case the spring rides on the starwheel as yours does to keep the adjuster from backing off.

Misfit, you need to get that grease out of there-it's not good for the shoes when it gets on them.

i knew that they are supposed to sit on top of the star, i wasnt sure if they are supposed to mesh like the old ones are doing in the first pic. thanks for the help. as ar as the grease goes, someone told me to use white lithium grease where there are points of friction(obviously not on the linings). is there a chance that it could get on the shoes? where should i grease? thanks for the help guys
