I've noticed that the base area at the bottom of my carb (where it meets the intake) is "sweaty". I can certainly slap some gasket seal on it to stop it but would like to understand why it's happening. It's a new flathead with a single double carb. My initial guess is blowby, but I'm just a FNG so hoping someone can offer some other thoughts or confirmation. PS. It's not fuel so I'm pretty sure I won't blow up. Pretty sure. Quite possibly condensation caused by the heat of vaporization of the fuel. Did you ever notice the "frost" that forms on the air conditioning condenser of a modern vehicle? Same principle. Jon.
It's probably just condensation, on a low humidity day it won't show. Years ago when I ran a blown fuel Chrysler dragster there would be a thin strip of frost along the area where the blower joined the intake manifold. I always thought it strange that the heads would be red hot and the blower would be frosty. It all works like a venturi where the air expands going through an area of high pressure to low pressure and gives up heat.
If the throttle shaft is a bit worn it could be gas seeping out around it leaving an oily stain. Used to be pretty common on old cars.
