thanks, same cover as mine, thinking of using the complete centre section with the bells and carrier, cutting it down the center tube to tube, gouging out the center peice and bolting it up to the 8''
yea, really, if i have time i will do it, it is not the right QC that i want, it is the big QC and not wurth anything and not wanting to invest money to make it fit, i will do it for now, and if ever i come accros a proper one for the car i will replace, i was at hershey and had brought enough money to by one if i had found one. mayby next year, if i go back, for now i am ok with doing that.
To all the posters who don't like it because its not real.Remind your self fibergl*** 32's are not real, for that matter Brookville coupes are not real, and neither are the bodies of swimsuit models but we like them and enjoy them.
I don't have a problem with it not being real. I just hate to see someone cut up a good usable piece to make something that is a fake of something they don't really like. I know I can't save 'em all, but somebody should save this one.
Being the O.P. I feel obligated to say I would have to agree. I've done two of these rear covers. One using a Halibrand cover, the other using a Franklin cover. The technique I used didn't modify either. They can be removed and re-used as they were originally intended.
You guys stuff socks in your BVD's too? Fake is not something that's not era corrects, it's something that isn't functional.
You guys cry too much. Fact is,his fabrication skills are great. Its his car/truck,he likes it. That cover with the decal still on it is rare, very cool.
I have an opinion on this. Nice looking RPU, Nice looking Quick Change Cover, Nice Job!! I guess that's three opinions, of course I built a fibergl*** car so what do I know.
I bought a fake quick change cover for my Chevy II 10bolt rear end back in the 70s. I could have bought a chromed one to do the same job but the QC cover looked good under there. (to me) It was purely decoration.
No confusion, I was agreeing with you. I wouldn't condone someone cutting up a quick change housing simply to make another rear end look like a quick change.
I'm thinking that "fake" quick change cover would look real good on my "fake" 48 Plymouth race car.....
Good craftsmanship but a waste of talent. For a few more hours work, you could have made the real thing.
good job and good imagination, don't worry about what others say, we build what we want not for others, have fun
I must of missed something here........after 3 yrs there are those who winge and complain about what this guy does for HIS car........so what if its not a REAL quickchange.............not all of us have the money to spend on one, but still would like something that looks the part..........are the traditional police that **** about something thats NOT theirs........I have a 1940 Dodge 4dr Sedan, yep, its NOT traditional, ie it doesn't have a 32 grille shell, flathead V8 and dropped axle made in 1949 nor does it have a fake quickchange, (tho' it has been a hotrod or streetrod, take your pic since 1973)............but hey I sure as hell would like one, real OR fake..............why don't some people grow up and just accept that what a person does to suit their car and THEIR wallet........oh.........and I've only had my car for 41 yrs so what would I know..........(oh and apparently the trad police got all uppiddy when I mentioned I had a fake Magneto a mth or so ago and wanted some info)..........regards, Andy Douglas
well some of you are going to be happy, and some will never be, i measured and cutting in half will not fit, so i am going to make a braket and bolt the rear cover of my QC on the back, will not destroy anything, can be reused, my car is low so all you are going to see is the bottom of the cover., will have picture later this weekend of mok-up.
Oh, by the way, i kno this will be disapointing to some, but the shifter skeleton head is fake also on my car.
I'm always glad to see someone build what they want. Well, mostly I am because I've seen plenty of cars I'd be ashamed to be driving into an event or cruise night. Sometimes I feel sorry for those, but this isn't even in the same galaxie of that thought. Not one of you "officers of the obvious" would turn down driving that truck or that tudor. If you say you would, I call ********. It's kool. He didn't build it for me. He didn't try to tell us it was anything but what it is. I'd roll thousands of miles in that truck because it's *****in. Who has the outer carbs blocked on their tri powers? Vinyl is fake leather, right? Would I do it? Irrelevant. It's kool and it's good work, and I'm as **** about being authentic as they come due to my profession.
Nice work and It's your car so do anything you like My question is, what is so different then this to a no change quickchange ? I got a nos one so I am understanding why now it is nos and would someone get the same. Opions on that?
I drive old cars, the newest one i've ever owned is a '81 which is 4 years older than me. My daily is a '65 el camino, should i put it in a show, HELL NO! It is a POS, but i keep the firepower lit, Anyway back to the topic, i BUILT a STREET q/c for under $500 and i have anouther full race locked diff q/c under my workbench i paid $400, hell i've paid more than that on whiskey on a rough week. I guarrentee he has more than i do into his whole rear end, brakes and all!! Thats why i made a comment on this something like a year ago, should he really stick a banana down his pants???
.I guess my statement about fibergl*** and brookville not being real should have said there is a difference between traditional and authentic, one is, as it was back in day, thats authentic having the look of how it was is traditional. Or at least thats the way I see it. Now everyone weigh in and tell me why I'm wrong.
I'm with the OP on this one. All you traditional nazi's must have thrown out your Honest Charlie's, Cal Custom and J.C. Whitney catalogs from the fifties and sixties. Quite frankly, I don't even bother to correct some of the "experts" when they admire my faux quick change.
