so I did some searching and though I'm sure it's been done, I can't seem to find a thread about a quick change rear axle in a spring behind fat ford. Let's say 40-48 for shits and giggles.

I've toyed with the idea of one under my 46 for various reasons and the biggest hurdle I can see is the rear cross member is right in the way. I'm not using the traverse spring but it still mounts my shocks and my gas tank so any modification will have to keep that in mind.

Curious what others have done, I can't believe there's not a 40 ford with a quick change that doesn't sit like a gasser.

    Thanks in advance

I guess that's one option. Do you recall it having a notch in the gas tank?

The 46 rear crossmember has a pretty sizable dip down in the middle that you could raise or notch I suppose but I'm pretty sure the dip along the top side of the crossmember has the trunk floor dipped to match and the spare tire sits in that.

Might pop over to some kustom threads and see what happens when you put a stra Guy crossmember in these cars. I know I've seen a few done that way just to get it lower

I need to get a tape measure on a quick change and then lay under the car and see what's in the way I guess. Quick bump to the top in case someone's got another example :)

I am a strong believer in building your car the way you want it, but I look at 1946 Fords and I think a quick change is really gilding the lily. Can't imagine why you'd really want one.

Because it's easier than changing to a transmission with over drive lol.

Ah. Still, from an appearance standpoint, it wouldn't my choice. Your car, though. Best of luck.

Honestly even if you got on the ground you'd still hardly be able to see it. It's way back in there and there's plenty in the way, thus my curiosity if anyone's made one fit. I guess a more common solution is a Columbia rear that puts the bulk off to the side

    I love '46es, had a few. Have a '47 now, but...
If someone drew a cartoon of a '46 at an outdoor meeting with a Quickie under it, and I was depicted observing it, the cartoonist would be obliged to add a set of question marks jetting upward from my gourd.

Actually, if I WERE to observe a cool '46 Tudor with a Quickie, I would be surprised, impressed, and wondering just which 'Big Shooter' slid this in. I'd look for Halibrand Sprints, Firestone Darlingtons, and other 'dalliances'...
