Afternoon all: I came across H.A.M.B while looking for answers on old Timken axles, and it seemed there were more intelligent discussions on quick change axles here than elsewhere. I've posted this question on other sites, and had several "experts" with no experience whatsoever with Timkens or quick change axles weigh in, but still haven't heard from anyone who actually has experience with quick change/ Timken axles....so I joined hoping someone here could help:

I have a 1948 Willys truck "1-ton" truck. It has a Timken 51540 "clamshell" or "banjo" school-very similar to the ones used Ford trucks, although the Ford trucks had a different model #. at first glance, I can't see any differences between the Ford or Willys versions, however, I do not know if any parts interchange. they could be completely different, or may be exactly the same except for minor differences. I'm trying to find this out as well.

Briefly searching the internet indicates that the Ford version was the base of the quick change axles.

If this is correct- do any of the limited slip or locking differentials available for the various quick change rears work with the stock Ford banjo (Timken)? Or do the limited slip/ lockers only work with the altered quick change

The reason I am posting is I am hoping that I can fit a locker or limited slip into the Timken on my Willys.
    Thanks, Duane in Medford

Tried search. found conflicting info on search.
Nothing personal against you or anyone on this website, but I prefer to post as little personal info about myself a possible.

Does anyone know if any of the lockers/ limited slip rears fit in a stock Timken 37-52ish banjo style axle?

    Elminero,

The self introduction is not mandatory but is considered good etiquette for this forum.
Nobody is trying to pry into your personal life, just interested in your car stuff.

But, in the interest of being a good H.A.M.B.er, I can tell you that the limited slip differentials that fit a Frankland or Winters will work in your Timken axle.

    Now, how about that intro.
