I have a early Halibrand center that I will put in my car at a later point, right now I want to put a locked stock banjo center section section in and was curious if I set the torquetube length up for the stock center section will the quickchange use the same length torquetube when I go to put that in, without doing the mockup I'm thinking it will work but would like to hear first hand, thanks.
In a word, yes. The beauty of most early Ford speed parts is that they bolt in in place of the factory equipemnt with no modification.
I would say : should be. The banjo has the pinion in the center, the QC at the bottom. so the TT has to be longer...... But the differnence is not a lot.
rustybucket just ran into this problem i think a solution for you would be to make it fit the stock center, then just make a spacer to take up the difference when you switch to the Q/C
Angle is also going to change a bit, putting some twist on springs and shackles... I think Car Craft did a nearly useful tech on this in the small years, roughly '53-5...I think it is on the cover. I know you've got that in the barn somewhere!
Thanks guys, I was just talking with my father and he had just mentioned that he ran a banjo in the roadster for a while and then just switched to a quickchange without doing anything, for now I will go with setting it up with the stock center and see how it looks....maybe add a 1/4" to the length when I cut the torquetube to pick up a little slack when I put the quick in. Who know's maybe I will be fine with the banjo center, they sure do look nice chrome plated.
