Went here and looked around for comparable numbers...some highlights:

    1975 Chevrolet Corvette 350 9.6 16.4

    1976 Chevrolet Corvette 350 8.1 16.5
    1968 Chevrolet Corvette 327 7.7 15.6

    1977 Chevrolet Corvette 8.8 16.6

    1979 Chevrolet Corvette L82 7.3 15.7

    1980 Chevrolet Corvette L82 7.4 15.4

You're still slower than an L-88, though... :)

There were quite a few Sixties big block muscle cars that did not get out of the fifteens (mostly GM's ;)), and most high performance smallblock powered cars didn't. Having had a low fifteen second small block car that I occasionally took to the strip, a car that runs fifteens is quite powerful on the street. It is down right impressive from a flat four!

Outstanding, congratulations to both Enbloc & Artiki! I hope my B will run this fast someday!

  8. Enbloc & Artiki, both of you have achieved some great results with bangers. It certainly is very interesting. Are you able to give a general rundown of your engine and drivetrain combinations?
My 29 pick up ran 21 seconds with a relatively stock four banger running twin carbs and electronic ignition backed by a T5. Its dragging alot more wind obviously but it starts to get you all fired up. There is plenty more I would like to try before switching to a more aerodynamic body. Like at the moment its a stock crank and rods as well as the pistons. Stock valves too with adj lifters. Then there is the desire to fit a Halibrand diff to have a few more gear ratio options.
The long term plan has begun however in the form of a 165 inch wheelbase chrome moly framed front engine dragster to run a Hilborn two pot injector on a 4-71 on alcohol on a Model A motor - the theory so far to this has been fun - together with my Dad its a father and son project....

Nothing special in mine to be honest, mostly off-the-shelf stuff apart from the bottom end. There's a counter-weighted A crank, inserted bearings and oil pressure down there, but with stock A rods and pistons. The block is an A 'diamond' which are strong blocks to use.
I ported the block myself but didn't go mad with the die-grinder, just tidied it all up and smoothed the flow. There are also 1.7" inlets installed.
Everything else I bought and fitted: Winfield 6.4-1 head, Ansen intake, header, Mallory, Brierley-grind 1R cam, straight cut timing gears and a new 97. About it really for making the power. Though there is a lightened flywheel, four-speed trans and quick-change axle hanging off the back of it all.

  10. Impressive sruff man...well done.

    Love them bangers..!!!

  11. Mmmm... Where to start....

Diamond B, full pressure, inserts, ported, 1.700" inlets, stock exhausts, Windfield 1A cam, Isky springs, Winfield head 8:1 comp, Burns intake, dual 97's, 4-2-1 header of my own design, aliuminium V8 flywheel, 9" clutch.

All this sent through a '39 box to a Model A rear end with a quickchange.

Build up of this engine was covered twice in last years banger meets.

Well done Clark - now it is just down to weight

  13. Yeah fatboy. Lay off the pies...

Actually - I was chatting to Mark about this last night. Pondering how light we could build a road going car as Tony did with his modified. No front brakes was a tad extreme methinks! But T rails, 80"-ish wheelbase, narrow axles like I was building - just a thought.
