exactly, you have to give some to get some. for me, i dont know what i would do without my club, if i need help i have guys there helpin me( and vise versa) plus i get a kick outta runnin 5 to 10 cars deep into a show, or even around town.
Our club is small. They're my best friends and thats the only way a club really works. The jackets, plaques and stickers don't help you fix your busted ride at 2 AM the night before a show. I think alot of the folks on here got stuck in local cruise night type clubs and I can see how lame that could be.
Old news and dont miss it at all .....................................................................
Oh Yeah? Then you haven't tried to help others by helping out with the club's "special-tool loaner program". That's the best way to see your tools vanish very quickly, then have all sorts of nasty things said about you if you dare ask for a couple of your "loaner" tools back. OTHERS get out of it what YOU put into it..... ....but don't tell anybody or they may not like you anymore..... Call me unsociable if it makes you feel better, but I am keeping my tools, walking away from childish club politics, and ignoring all soap operas. Don't take this personal, and I am not taking your post personal, but I hope this gets my point across for myself and others who do not join clubs.
This is a post like when people ask what they should do to their cars.... do what y ou want.. join a club if you want, join a book club if you want.. it is not for everyone or each club is diffeerent too so maybe that particular club did not value the same things that you valued but another club will have the same outlook?..
Ya dont have to be in a club for that. I grew up in streetrods and there was always about 10 or so cars that ran together with my parents but they where never in a club. Hell they even put on a rod run every year, if you wanted to help fine but no obligation for anyone to help with it. Just a bunch of friends hanging around. I do remember a couple of clubs getting pissed when someone quit thier club and ran with us. David
This is the case with me,I dont have the time to invest much and not getting anything out of it so there is no use in me belonging to that club. If I find a local club that I can do things with then its another story,in my case I was dating a woman that was local to the club so I was down there every weekend and could participate but after ending the relationship I have no need to be in that area plus there was some jelousy of my vehicles from some of the other members. I have a few cars that are drivable and nicer then some in the club and heard about it ever time someone got a bug up their ass so after this year is up I am done with them.
I'm a member of The Subway Customer Rewards Club. You get this card and if you buy 10 6" sandwiches (over time ofcourse) you get 1 free when you buy a drink. There's no drama, No politics, Just free sandwiches.
The Rum Runners have no dues, every once in a while a party/meeting,we help each other when we can, we dont when we cant. We have flakes and die hards. We go to shows together and have fun. No fake drama!
if you buy 12"s that counts as two, so if you run two cards at once and you buy two drinks you would get a 12 i guess. its true you only get out what you put in. i'm hungry now. EDIT hey hey my wife just brought home subway!
While you guys are enjoying Subway, I'll put my two-cents in... I've help start clubs, joined clubs and all the rest that goes with being a member, and it works for some people, but not me. When I lived in Beautiful Downtown Burbank in the late '70s, there were a bunch of us who'd regularly get together to go to events - meeting at a coffee shop the morning of an event, we could fill at least two city blocks with cars; we all looked after one another while traveling. These days, I belong to the local branch of the Vintage Car Club simply because the motorsickel folk are nice, friendly people - the car people are very cliquey. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother. Just remember, there are two kinds of people in clubs: Those who do stuff and those who complain about what the first kind has done!
I quit too after even being an officer off and on ...just got tired of the bullshit and back stabbing ...so lone wolf forever........
I see alot of jesse james wanna bees in the local car clubs, 15 years ago in high school most of them were driving crotch rockets and mustang gt's mommy and daddy bought them. making fun of people driving "old junky cars" now there driving around in hot rods cause its the "in thing"
I heard AA and NA are a pretty fun club. They hang out at the local Denny's, drink enough coffee to drown the Navy and smoke the shit outta some cigs.
I have been a few car clubs over the years. Politics always seem to get in the way. I left the last one when my partner was told she was not allowed to attend club meetings with me. I now very seldom even attend any events. I use my cars for my pleasure.
Alfster, WTF??? It's hard to believe that a club can be so pig ignorant that it would exclude someone's spouse from attending a meeting. I totally agree with your sentiments. These days, when asked if I belong to a club, I usually tell people that I "don't join clubs, people join me." Scary to say, it's the truth.
Hmm my club just had 11 grand cars at a show and 125 grand in attendance ..now thats a whole lotta work, money and oganization .. ... And politics and gripin and finger pointing .. But .. Do what ya want to do in life thats the club ........ Livin yer own life
