The amazing thing to me is that the emasculation of men has become so complete that one would even dare ask the question to others.
Why would you give a **** what anyone else thinks about how much time you spend with your hobby?

I have seen a few divorces caused by making the wrong choices about cars and family. One ended up no car no family no money alcoholic broken family and jail time. It can be a serious issue to some.

  7. This is the best comment I've seen on the HAMB, or any of the other forums that I'm on, yet!

It's funny to think that one would have to "quit" something they no longer (or rarely) do. Isn't a "quit" the result?

By your friend's rules, do you have to stand on a rock and make a public announcement?

My cousin used to say he quit smoking every night just before he went to sleep.

I've been told to quit drinking, but "nobody likes a quitter".

I've had summers when I didn't get to drag race, due to finances. I called it "taking a break".

english Bob...are you truly so insecure that the comments of another cause you to come in here asking such a question? If it was a friend making that comment, he is no friend - if it was a stranger, who cares what that ignoramus thinks. Last but not least, there have been a couple of "dead-on" remarks that remonstrate you for asking several thousand like-minded individuals (HAMBers) the question "what should I do...what should I do?". Gee...maybe a couple of knitting needles would be more appropriate. IT IS A HOBBY.....whether you build one birdhouse a year, or a hundred, it's still a HOBBY!!!! The answer to your question can be found within yourself - do YOU think you spend too much time leaning on your fenders, and not enough bouncing your kid on your knee/hugging your wife/drying dishes?

    depends on the 2 things:

the coolness of the cars your doing OR

the hotness of the wife your doing

only you know the real answer

A quote from the show Laugh In (Artie Johnson specifically).."Verrry interesting..but stupid", seems to apply to this thread.
Oh by the way, I have a slight headache..does anyone give a damn?..didn't think so. Just like I could give a damn what other people think of my involvement in one of my hobbies.

A lot of people seem to want to get into my head a lot of the time. My simple rule is this: If you don't seriously love me, or pay my bills, I'm not letting you into my head. In fact, I make sure I ignore them. I make a point to disregard those "outsiders" who tend to make comments like English Bob has just described. My 2 cents only!

  17. Since when is there a set amount of time you need to spend with a hobby in order to participate in the hobby?

Dr Seuss said "be who you are and say what you feel because those that mind don't matter
and those that matter don't mind"

or as my uncle used to say "never pet a burning dog"

I think my dad and I strike a good balance between the two. He averages about 7-8 years on a build. Me, I've taken up to 10 years to get a vehicle to the point where I like it.

    No complaints from my family...

Ah this thread brings to mind two thoughts...First, when I was nineteen or so a good friend told me I was ****ed up..I was working as a machinist apprentice [evolved into Toolmaker] and I'd make more chips at home on hobby projects. He thought that was stupid and I needed a real hobby.!. Well I took it to heart, wondered about it for a few days..Then it hit me, what more could I ask of life's work than to want to do more at home..I've had some great fun at work [got paid too] and at home too [warm fuzzy feeling] making stuff for my cars, dirt bike, Kart, Pulling Tractor..Also did all the home chores like wiring and plumbing, carpentry, landscaping as needed..Drag Raced in mid seventys, Dirt bike riding, raced Karts, Did Tractor Pulling for twenty years..Wife, her kids, grand kids..The friend became an Electrical Engineer, married, no kids..Hires help for home maintanance, flys an airplane [rented] around, timeshares, and his big hobby Flys Kites!!! Sweet! I guess I'm still ****ed up..I been retired for six years and still do all the same stuff, gees I need a hobby....
Second is that I have said in the past that I would love to cruise the USA seeing all the great sights and places...I get told I should do a cruise, it would be better..Bite me..
So...Do whatever floats yer boat, BUT take care of responsibilitys. Build whatever you like, in however long you want..Finish or not, jump from one to another, finish nothing or all..

The first question was too difficult for me to understand. Parts of it should be fun, most of it should be a pain in the ***. That's what keeps the m***es from getting involved and f-ing it up for the rest of us.
