I really don't understand the OP question, I was in "The Hobby" long before I had a family.

Sounds like you spend more quality time at the "hobby" than a lot of guys who consider themselves ********.

Family has always come first for me with any and all hobbies taking a place down the line including my hot rods or my sail boat.

The kids are grown, the wife is back in school and I now have spare time and a bit of spare cash for the never finished projects.

I think you have the right at***ude and the guys telling you that you don't put enough effort into the hobby are a bit out of touch with the real world.

I tell my girl it could take the rest of my life to finish 1 car. who cares. if it keeps you happy why try to make someone else happy. hell building cars and collecting stamps are just not comparable!

That guy will be lined up at your garage door along with all your car "buddies" when you announce you're quitting, all with half the value of everything you have in their pockets. Sad but true. If you do quit just be glad you're alive to handle dispersing the old stuff because the wolves really come to "help" your wife and kids after you're gone to the big rod shop in the sky!

You're probably right, I should just quit, I only managed to make two kids in twenty years, I'm a failure.:(

You either; are a hot rodder.. or you are a guy who has hot rods. You either; live the life style and have friends and family and facilities and apparel that show who YOU are and the lifestyle that you live or and include your family in the p***ion of your life and they love you as you live it...or........you have a hobby. You have a long list of iron in your description, guess what? You're not a hobbyist.

do what makes you feel good. if you're doing it the way you want to, theres no reason to quit. if cars are a part of who you are, even just a small one, what to fill the gap with? to quit wouldnt be right to me. thats like my wife asking me to quit exercising. i do it for me, and no one else. just my two cents.

HOBBY is the key word, unless this is your full time job.

Enjoy your hobbies but spend time with your family, at the end you will never say you spent to much time with the kids when they were growing up!!!!
Get the family involved with your hobbies.

The hobby is for fun, even fun with your family. The family comes before anything. you must work to take care of your family. Hope the one that told you that wasnt what you call a friend.
