Then kick whatever projects ass needs kicking when you're all fresh.
How many times have you come back to something and it was ten times easier to sort out.
Happens to me all the time.
And it makes life alot easier if you knock off before the screwdriver and hammer throwing begins.

Some good advice here but some of us know that you have way too many "projects" laying around. You need to decide which one to do, sell the rest so you actually will have some money to work with to build the one car into a driver so you can spend some time having fun in your own car at an event. Not to mention the fact that you'll be able to move around in your garage and your yard and driveway will look presentable.

In all the years I've know you you've never had anything running and driving. You need to focus. Stay on your meds, pay your bills first, then whatever is left over you can spend on your one car. It's called priorities. Once it's running and driving you can fine tune the body and anything else that needs it AS YOUR HAVING FUN cruising around.

Once one car is "finished", in whatever form that term suits you, THEN start planning your next project, saving up money and scouting around for a good deal. You will find your life will be awhole lot less stressful if you don't feel like your being pulled in all different directions.

Time to grow up and get your shit together bud. Oh yeah, and be thankful you have a decent job to actually be able to pay the bills and have a project.

Sometimes the anxiety of "is it finished yet?" sets in and we feel like we arent gettin there fast enough, friends, partners, ourselves, whoever will ask and not see the effort{especially if not involved in rodding}...........slow down and to anyone who preys on that anxiety, I tell them the journey{build} is just as fun as the end product. They are 2 different things and both are important in the build. Give yourself the choice to sell anytime.............you need to feel you choose what you are doing not trapped in a mountain of projects......they are all investments regardless if they are worked on or not.........have a break and lighten the load if you have to{sell stuff not needed}.......hope all is well.cheers, Bert

 

it's almost frieghtening how well some of you seem to know me (or actualy do) and how so many of you describe being where i've been/am.

it's all good advice (except for kicking the dog. i'd never do that).

i think if i had one project on the road (in any condition) i'd be alot happier and more enthusiastic.. guess i should get to work on that goal.

 

wait a minute- did I post this? I could have swore I expressed the same sentiments last week, and the month before, and before that. It's a real love hate relationship. I change my mind so often on what I want to keep, build, and sell that my family and friends just quit listening to me. I'm so stoked on building my A up right now, when last month I hated it and had it listed for sale. Now I hate my T and want to sell it!

the last thing you wanna do is liquidate and walk away... i almost did, and the very thought of what might have been makes my ass quiver.

if you do sell, sell a bunch of little shit, some stuff you are hordin for "that someday ride" and buy a runner... work on it as needed, drive it and keep pluggin away at the projects... but above all,,, TAKE A BREAK!

Sell everything you own Mike.....except 1 project. Serious. Then just start workin on that 1 project. Not only would you have 1 thing to focus on but youd have money to spend on it. Its a million times better to have a car at a show than just being a spectator. I honestly dont even consider going to anything unless I can take my car.

 

them baby boomers are driveing up prices so high every one with a pile in the yard thinks its gold im not geting anther project till i can drive it home for less than 1000$ (then ill wake up and get a real car HAHA)

Give it a break - go back later. Don't do anything stupid and sell your projects - unless its to me(ha,ha).

 

My recommendation:

Sell everything & buy a finished car you can drive & tinker with or sell everything but one project.... and immediately buy something fun to drive.

The key is to get something you can drive - ASAP.

kinda what i was thinking to be quite honest. ...but thats not very realistic now is it.

 

i spent a year in Iraq thinking about what i wanted out of life and it was the same stuff i had always wanted but having a year that i couldn't do any of it made me appreciate it more. cordon off your garage and don't work on anything for a while. when you do get back you'll be more motivated to succeed than you would have if you had used the old slow and steady crap

Now the big question, whatcha sell'in and is it worst havin, for the rest of us that is!

 

Take a break, relax , go fishing do something you have not done in a long time
and make sure you do what you want to relax yourself. Forget the cars for a while.

i'm gonna go fuck off tonight. see a movie, eat some good food. tommarow i'm gonna help Mongo power wash and paint the engine compartment in the Olds then we are going to a party that afternoon/evening. if i'm concious on Sunday i think i'll start a thurough cleaning of the garage. i think i'll be in a much better state of mind when there is some order in my gargage. it seems to work that way with the rest of my life (order=calm) so why not the garage.


..then next tuesday i'm gonna go buy the new TOOL CD when it goes on sale, put it in the cd player in the garage and CRANK IT till the cops show up. DAMN this shit ROCKS!!!! (they are playing the new stuff on the radio right now).

 

amazing the answers you get from "fellow hot rodders" some are good others are morons with nothing better to do but hassle ya.Been doing the same thinking you are in a way, I'm doing a 55 210 sedan chebbie from the ground up with all new floors, trunk,quarters inner fenders, small block 4 speed the works and sometimes ya really start asking yourself if it's worth the aggravation and all of the time involved.In my case I found that taking some time out and setting goals for the next time you work on it seems to help you want to keep going.If it really gets to be too much for ya take a longer break and wait for the itch to hit and then go for it!!

 

You know what. I think you might go back and read that stuff again, even the stuff the morons said. Maybe you just might possibly realize that... hey... whoa!! morons have a sense of humor, unlike you.

And I am quite sure that kustombuilder can choose the suggestions that appeal to him the most, and that he realizes that this place is 92% humorous and takes it with a grain of salt.

I go thru the same thing every 8 or 10 years. Best advice I can give is sell everything except your tools. Get right out of rodding for a while. --Just remember---hotrodding is like herpes---it never really goes away---it just clears up once in a while!!! When you're ready to play in the garage again you'll know.

 

I'm gonna try thumpers plan and get back to work tomorrow!!

 

Like Littleman said... There's something to be said for someone who keeps pounding on the same project for 5, 6, 7 even 10 years .

Take a road trip to another HAMBers place and work on their car, with their permission of course, It'll make you appreciate what you've got right in front of you.

Oh, and google "chronic procrastinator", if you are one like me, it'll show you you ain't alone, it's just a matter of putting your head down, moving forward and doing it.

 

I think you need to give your 60 Olds project to me...before I buy the one down here and beat you to the punch! How is that for lighting a fire under your ass?

 

Sounds like you need another NEW project ... that way the work you are doing now is just what is needed to get to the next one! .
or go work on someone else bigger pile..

I say go lay under your car for a while .WTTHOUT JACKSTANDS IF POSSIBLE..( your chest much touch metal or compress a little to work properly) breathe and feel the car move and breathe back in-out with you .. close eyes breathe... smell ...listen...
when ready
when you crawl out the pressure will be off you this REALLY works ..
and you will see some leaks and be motivated, refreshed and a little greasy...

i got plumb sick of looking at all my piles, never getting anywhere on any of them, spending money like its going out of style, etc. etc. etc. so i sold everything. well almost.
i sold the two roadster projects. traded the coupe for a chopper project (whole other can of worms) and sold the sled.
i was so relieved and so depressed at the same time. thought maybe i'd take up fishing or dune buggys or something.
the sled came back. (i hate dealing with friends, but i'm glad she's back)
so now i'm down to my sled driver that i cant tear down because my import driver has a bad trans and cant be freeway driven, and my chopper project with a small hitch in getting the motor from the builder, and my wifes 1st year firebird.
now i'm probably going to pick up a frame and axle for a bucket project.

even still...as much as i love my sled and cant wait till my bike is done so i can take a blast up the coast, i still would love to just sell it all and buy a finished 36 and call it a day, but i know better.

i tried.
i mean i really, really tried.
theres no quitting.
it cant be done.
it will always be there.
forever.
