“The idea of finding beauty in imperfection is not merely an aesthetic principle, but a way of seeing the world, a philosophy to guide you.”

    Hello,

My wife and I were talking about various quotes we have heard over the years. She says the latest one fits me to a “T.” Our lives are pretty simple and it has always been that way, here in So Cal. Goals have been met and new ones are set. We go with the flow and adapt to our family organization, as much as possible.

Nothing much affects us. We have pretty much encountered the obvious, turbulent history and things since getting together in 1966. So, after the usual turmoil, we are happy with what, where and who we are at the present time. Things have worked out for us on this long haul.

    Jnaki

We all got a chuckle at this one. My wife’s version (vision) of the current family surroundings goes like this:

    Simple life:

    Sitting quietly,

    Doing nothing,

    Spring comes,

    And the grass,

    Grows by itself…

jnaki, you have a partner wise in her ways. The poem is from someone Eastern, Royakan, Basho, Li-Po or their tradition. 'Chin' essense, heart-mind. Not two. Thanks!

    Hey P,
Wow, thanks for the nice comments. She will love seeing that comment (Jnaki, you have a partner wise in her ways.) and I will not hear the end of that notation for quite some time. She likes old cars, back then she loved driving the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery, and over the years, has accepted the fact that we have evolved together. So, yes, she is wise.

    Thank you, again...

You might add the fourth useless thing: the airspeed you don't have.

I've never seen one yet that did not make it to the scene of the crash but my experience is with helicopters so maybe that is different.

A couple of versions slightly different from these above, which is the way I always heard them...

Three things useless to any pilot: runway behind you, altitude above you, and fuel on the truck

You never see a U-Haul in a funeral procession.

That reminds me of Gerard Manley Hopkins' "All things counter, original, spare, strange" (https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44399/pied-beauty)

Great maxim, but, if you have to 'splain it...

"Fast, Cheap, or Good. Pick Two."

  12. My favorite; "If at first you don't succeed, keep on suckin' 'til you do suck seed!" - Curly Howard

I coached our church girls volleyball team for several years. I always told them,
Motto - "There is no such thing as second place. That is only the first looser." -anonymous
Creed - "Winning isn't everything, it is the only thing." -Vince Lombardi
Cannon - "If it doesn't matter who wins or looses, why are they keeping score?" - anonymous

As you might gather I had ended up with a twisted group of young girls!!!!!! But we had fun.

All things move toward their end.

Those who can, do, those who can't, teach, those who can't teach, teach teachers to teach.

I come from a time when we liked and respected our teachers, because they earned and demanded our respect. Our world was round back then, if I goofed up( and I did many times) my teacher would take me to the front of the room, Bend me over the desk, make me look at my fellow students and swing that board till he/She thought I had learned my lesson. If my educators had not done that, I would be making license plates for cars instead of whole cars. I have attended the funerals of most of my teachers, with my hanky in my hand, got one big one to go. Bones

  30. I had a few good teachers. I always showed respect and to some I actually meant it.
