My Grandma would say about a less-than-perfect attempt at something:

"A man running for his life would never notice."

I worked for a carpenter early in my career that had a similar statement for less than perfect work. He would say "looks good from downtown". Then my dad, who worked for GE where they made military armaments for the US government said the common saying was "good enough for government work".

Wasn't it John Glenn lamenting on the Gemini space capsule as he is orbiting earth about it being built by low bid contractors? That could be urban myth, too.

I also cut my teeth as a carpenter and worked for an old timer in 1973 (I was 20) on a framing crew . . . we were "nail drivers", that was the job description (no pneumatic stuff in 1973). Mr. Bundy was the saw man, he would cut lumber and we would nail it up and we would often be studying the situation, loathe to make a mistake. Mr. Bundy would get irritated at our pace and say:

"The hell fire boys! Nail it 'fore it rots! It ain't a goddamn piano."

Many years ago a neighbor was losing an argument with another guy, so this neighbor says hold on... I'll be right back. He gets something from a toy store, comes back, hands it to the guy. Neighbor says "I found these, I know they're yours because you lost them". It was a bag of marbles.

    except
    "shit happens, deal with it"
or in mixed company.."that's why they make the bumper sticker"

There will always be someone to criticize you, so just do whatever you were going to do anyway.

Back in the day I owned a Rolls Royce Service center. When the local dealer went broke we serviced a lot more of their cars . One of the more interesting signs sent to us was a very elegantly printed and framed wall hanger.

It stated, "If it don't go, force it. If it breaks it needed to be replaced anyway!!!!!"

That added a lot of conversation in the service bays when a customer saw it hanging on the wall.

    just sayin'
