When I ventured south to Bakersfield for the CHRR I would stay wth my (Oregon) high school pal, he always had a BBQ, California tri-tip steak (and beer), he would carve a chunk right off the grill and hand it to you with the knife to sample and say "I wonder what the poor people are doing right now", good times!

which is also a good translation of its meaning. This Spanish proverb is frequently cited by Spanish-speakers all over the Americas and Spain when making reference to discovering one’s true nature.

Seems everywhere I go, they ALL say, " have a good one !!"
I respond: "I have a GOOD one, wish it was longer."
    She said, "WHAT ?
I said, "I have good one, wish we'd been marr' ed longer "

“I LIKE NONSENSE, IT WAKES UP THE BRAIN CELLS. FANTASY IS A NECESSARY INGREDIENT IN LIVING.”

    Hello,

Since the cost of hot rod modifications is/was always a high dollar event, that put a lot of teens and 20 somethings a step back in their chosen activity. If one can’t get an old car to modify and “make it yours” you have joined the huge group that lacked the money and supplies to continue the builds. Sure, you can save and purchase something that takes several years to complete.

But, the word fantasy can play a satisfying part of the whole “lack of money” scenario. How so? In art, one can draw to one’s content on a zillion different car designs. All it takes are two wheels and a basic body style to get moving. A little change here and a few more there makes the low cost, actually no cost road trip to the garage a simple one.

Break out those pencils and erasers for a trip down nostalgia lane. We all grew up drawing a box with wheels as an early car from the kindergarten days. Some were circular and others looked like early VW busses. But, a box, none the less.

So, break out your pencils, erasers and patience. We are not all Steve Sanford, the car artist extraordinaire. Or those few we see on TV that use “Sharpie Markers” as their tool of choice for an expert art finished design at one sitting… Sheesh!!!

Not really a quote, but sumthin' to think about :
    Story goes:
One bright day in the night two dead boys got up to fight, back to back they faced each other,
drew their swords and shot each other.
Two deaf and blind policemen heard the noise, came shot the two dead boys.
    author, unknown.

you will be saying to yer self in the shower, or in the garage ....

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”

    Hello,

Reading is the standard for learning all things. Whether it is an old hot rod magazine with action photos or a 200 page novel of sorts, learning is built in the process. As we get older, we go through stages and part of that process is still learning… through reading.

Now, people criticize the new generation of teens and 20s somethings doing all of their reading on their phones. So, social contact is nil. But at least they are reading. So, some learning is going on someplace.

    Jnaki

It amazes me that we all got a taste in hot rods by our dads or reading magazines at an early stage. But, “the more you read, the more you know…” still plays an important part. Folks used to criticize the shops classes in high school serving no purpose other than learning “a skill.” Not everyone needs to go to college to start their own lifestyle. The push was on and most high schools eliminated shops classes for academic rooms and pre-college studies.

The aspect of learning a skill has always been a part of the landscape and these days, there is a push to integrate those old “shops” classes back into the curriculum for learning specific skills. But, more is yet to come as each generation goes through their own trials and decides for themselves which is right for them.

Also, who does not like to travel to go to big time car shows in various regions of the USA? YRMV
