    heres a quick run down
i rebuilt a 8ba flathead everything brand new except the crank.
motor is a standurd bore and standurd size cam on the 8ba with the bigger i think 70 cc edelbrock aluminum heads, the intake is a early aluminum single holley 3 bolt lets say the year is 40's no down draft tube its all solid manifold except where the fuel pump goes. im not running the stock fuel pump im running a small electric pump, and a breather tube where the old pump would be.
my motor starts and runs very good, cool temp is like between 160 and 180, im not using points im using pertronix electric distributor.
    heres my question
the motor runs extremely rich. i have a 3 bolt holley 94 on it now its a brand new one from macs, i have the fuel pressure on 3 psi, the air idles are both adjusted to the best i can get it to, i think like 1 and 1/4 to 1/2 turns. engine idles smooth if i wack the gas it revs up fine, sometimes but not everytime is stalls, no biggie. how can i get the car from running so rich it burns my eyes, the fuel vapors are strong and they pour out of the breather like is just sucking raw fuel.. there was a small vacume leak but i fixed it, it was at the rear ofothe carb, made a new gasket and it solved the leak problem, ive checked the manifold for leaks but havent found any..any ideas?

  2. Even though your carburetor is brand new, I would suspect float level or power valve. Have you had a backfire at all? That will usually blow the power valve and then raw fuel is dumping in.

No back fires, as I recall how do I fix this issue. Even now im working on the car, fuel valve is closed and I still smell raw fuel ...pulled the dip stick and the oil level is normal..so no fuel pouring into the engine when it sits for days....injustice orderd a set of adjustable main jets from sp eedway to see if I can reduce fuel.

  4. Probably not the power valve , but the power valve gasket is leaking fuel.
I have come across numerous PV gaskets that were glued together that the glue dissolved and started leaking. I use only the single piece nylon gasket for the PV and the jet access screw.

Could it be that your engine can't breathe because of the early intake you are using?

The intake breaths I can actually see the fuel vapors when the motor is warm puffing out of yhe breather and its getting me frustrated. I checked the csrb today the main jets are 51's I just orderd adjustable mains from sp eedway tonsee if I can lean it out ...I just think it should be leaner with the time in at top dead and a hot set of Ngk plugs and pertronixs and everything 12 volt .....im stumped, but I do understand alot of people have had these troubles with these carbs...and their is no one fix

  8. I think you said fumes coming from breather! If this breather is where you took the original fuel pump from, that is blowby from the crankcase and nothing to do with intake system. Sounds to me you have a worn rings situation. Are you sure the plugs are not oily,.

Yes aussie...fumes from where the fuel pump was ....but the rings and pistons and bearings and valvetrain is all brand new ...motor was just rebuilt .everything was checked ...the motor runs excellent but it runs extremely rich ....if the motor is off and hasn't been run in a couple days I can pop the hood and smell raw fuel from the engine like its not burning the fuel properly ..just raw...when I do run the motor it runs smooth and cool...but it has fuel vapor coming from the breather ....other than this problem the exhaust Dosent smoke at all it jist runs rich ..plugs are black with soot, = carbon not oil at all?
