If you look closely you can see the Fire Chief gas pump at far left with its "CONTAINS LEAD" sticker on the side of the pump.

I too have all those issues, and I certainly love that era in rods! If you notice in the "Eary Times" garage scene, I believe that was the beginning of Wayne Henderson's wonderful Vicky sitting there! He had a killer '32 coupe, I believe the same one in the photo. Also, I'm thinking that is Dan Woods beside Jake in the other photo.

Im trying to track down more info on a certain black 57 chevy pickup that was raised up with cragars, big back window, all deluxe chrome, 327 4 speed...sound framiliar to anyone?? i know its a longshot, think it was owned by someone named Jayme Fox....

  5. I too cut my teeth on hot rod's from the 60's (these pictures from 70 actually look like mostly mid 60's styling to me) from looking at my older brother's Hot Rod and R&C mags for years. When I was getting close to driving age, I got my first car (when I was 15) a 55 Chevy. I've haven't been right since.............:D

Some of them look like the early 80s here in Australia, I guess we were a little behind in those days

I built my 57 Ford the way I did, mostly because of that R&C 1970 article, 65 Tbird interior, BBF, straight axle and all. Stared at those pics and drew pics of it all the time as a kid, I just loved that look. Does anyone know if that car still exists?

A nice reminder that the muscle car era didn't really kill the hot rod scene....

Nope, but muscle cars had the side effect of creating a much more focused and smaller hot rod scene.

Regardless of what was going on in the mainstream world, this era of hot rods will always make me smile!

I see a lot of muscle-car era styling from the era had infiltrated the hot rod scene... Big wide tires, white lettered tires, deep-dish "mags", etc. I also see a lot of non-chopped cars, and a lot of stock sheetmetal... I seem to remember stock-ish sheetmetal cars going by the "resto-rod" name back in the day...

I was born in 1972, but when my Dad started building a '40 Chev coupe in 1980, it seems like much if the 1970 stuff was still kind-of "in", cause I remember cars like this.

A guy here at work had his car in *I think* R&C back then in a section called "highboy of the month"....it was a '55 Chevy street gasser....his name is Jim Moon.
If you happen to come across the issue with it in it, I'd love to see it, and show him again, he'd get a kick out of it.

I posted this pic of a local guys car before and was razzed for my appreciation of what it is. LOL

This was a magazine car in I believe 1968. I do not recall which mag or month. I appreciate it for surviving a certain era. Nobody painted it red with ZZ Top stripes or some pastel color. It's still incredibly preserved 1968 paint. In the mag it does have steelies which look better than the spokes and if it was mine, I would revert it back but for the most part I'd have to preserve it's historical time frame.

If I was to build one today, I would not build one like this. If I bought it like that though, I would leave it largely intact.
