R&C Gasser issue.

Good to see most people are enjoying it. We get it right every once in a while. JimA is very good at what he does whether it's stirring shit or writing about what he loves.

I've had this 55 for 37 years and I've always wanted to do it up as a bad ass gasser, but alas........it will probably have to wait until the gasser style goes "back out of style"(as if that could ever happen) . Maybe when I retire........

 

I'd say,they never REALLY went away,they were just hiding in the back of the staging lanes.Great to see gassers(traditional drag cars)so popular again.

 

I LOVE that survivor car LB!!! I have a ton of pictures from everytime I've seen it. That's my model if I ever have the scratch to build my own gasser. A cross between that car and the "Bad Man" model kit that I built as a kid.

 

I have a 1968 issue of a magazine called "1001 Rod and Custom Ideas" that referred to 'em as "Street Funnys" (street freak came a little later....and I DO have magazines where they use the term ).......has articles on the latest TREND of swapping in straight axles into Falcons, Tri-5's and even GTO's Also TECH article on LACE /panel painting......plenty of cars in it that have EXACTLY what you describe (in 1968)....tunnel rams and ALL!!!!!

 

I hope those cars NEVER come back in style or become the next "fad". PLEASE!!!

Yes, it's symantics- I just never liked the "Street Freaks" style cars- was too ISCA and Disco Van for me.

 

Hey thats a cool lil 55. You know sometimes you should just listen what the 55 tells you...it knows what she wants...I mean ya it wont come out and say it but it will come to you.

I know that sounds like stereotypical mix blood jargon, but I tell you what man these ol war ponies are powerful...I'll never sell mine and if she survives 50 years from now I'll be ridin along in spirit with the rest of guys before me.

So listen to your ol horse man....stick with it and never look back.

Worm has just started making straight axle king pin bosses. Did he miss the fad? I don't think so. There are a lot of old time drag racers out there itching to do it again, if only on cruise nite. Nothing bad about that.

 

Yeah, the OL 55 's been talking to me for years, back in high school it was usually tellin' me different ways how to get tickets! The last thing it told me was it didn't want to come out and play because the starter wiring harness fried itself when I tried to get it running so I told it "fine, you'll just have to sit there in your own stink until I get around to re wiring you"! I told the kids that when I die, they can cremate me and put some of my ashes in a little bottle and paint some moon eyes on it and hang it from the mirror so I can continue to cruz around in it.
I subscribe to R&C and I'm still waiting for it to get here.....

 

I believe this guy is a HAMBr.....this car is the shit. I think it used to be red.

 

got my new issue yesterday. most of it is pretty good as usual. that 55 is the cats ass! they could have cut the lengthy article about painting a small block yellow. two pictures could have told that old story.

i beg to differ, i think since Jim has left the magazine has been lacking, the last couple of issues were very dull IMO, wich is a shame because for awhile there they were doing so well.

and i am glad to see there is alot of attention being given to the Gasser style cars lately, they have been out of the spotlight for too long.

Yes, despite the heartache of ONE crybaby NEWBIE that has to follow me around POST-to-POST whining because I picked on his buddy in a DIFFERENT POST- I will indeed be contributing to R&C while getting my new business started and hopefully well into the future. I'm hoping that the fans I have built with good solid feature, tech and event stories over the last 6 years in REAL magazines will help me get past the fact that this one guy doesn't like me (OK, I know there's a couple more who's fethers I ruffled, but you know deep down I LOVE YOU ). I agree with the others on this thread. I really been enjoying R&C for the last couple years now. Look forward to seeing R&C in the mail box more than Hot Rod lately. Great Gasser issue!!
