For those of you that do not know GM has sent the Big Block Chevy motor out to pasture. The last engine was built at the Tonawanda engine plant in December right before Christmas shutdown. http://www.tonawanda-news.com/local/local_story_352232506.html In honor of the BBC lets see your hot rods or customs that are powered by this big old hunk of motor. Here is mine
It's sad but should come as no surprise since the gubmint owns the majority share. Wait until they come out with a vehicle designed by congress critters.
I work for a boat company that uses BBC inboard marine conversions in their gasoline powered yachts. I think they are based (at least some of them) on the high-deck truck blocks, are these going away also?
Old news. They are not phasing out bigblocks just not making them in Tonowanda anymore. Most of the crate engines are made in Mexico.
been discussed and distorted many time over. Supply and demand...no demand, so no supply. You want a crate rat..no problem
Actually this was planned before the Gov't had any involvement in the company. Another motor was supposed to go with it but got a 2 year extension (could be longer). Sorry about the repost, I guess I missed the other post but like I said to honor the motor lets see some cars that have them.
Correct, they will be made somewhere as they have to supply service parts for 5 years if i remember right. That was the last one for a production vehicle. They have only been going into the 1.5 ton topkick trucks for the last year or two anyways. With the Duramax and Vortec 6.0 motor there really was not a need for it anymore in the current models.
