Folks Of Interest R.I.P. Billy Lee Riley

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by A32Flathead, Aug 2, 2009.

  1. [FONT=verdana, geneva, helvetica] Billy Lee Riley ...
one of the greatest original Sun Recordings artists, peacefully p***ed away on Sunday, August 2nd, 2009 at 5:20 am. His family was at his bedside. Funeral arrangements are pending.

I had the pleasure of picking Billy Lee & his wife up from Heathrow Airport in November 2003 & accompanying them both to Camber Sands for the Rhythm Riot weekender. Billy was a wonderful guy, we spent hours with him over the course of the weekend. He was full of stories of 'back in the day' and could still tear it up with the 'young un's'

    Farewell Billy.

Weird. I just had a conersation about him last week. I saw an older guy at Disney with a Sun Records shirt on with Billy's name on it. We started talking music, he was pleased to see a younger guy into it. RIP

  5. One of the best shows I ever saw while I lived in Richmond VA. Actually delayed moving to KS a day just to see him. RIP

Sad to hear this. I was just listening to some of the old Sun stuff the other day. Still sounds great; simple, straightforward rock and roll.

Billy, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Sam Phillips and all those guys will live forever in the music.

I met Billy Lee in the early 90's at a blues festival. Afterwards had a chance to chat with him for 15 minutes or so. Very nice and humble guy. RIP Billy. Your Rock N' Roll legand status is ***ured.

God, another Rockabilly legend gone. Glad i got to meet him and watch him perform.

Wonder how long til this thread is closed like the appropriate "Buddy,Ritchie,Bopper" thread was last February.

Billy, you're in great company up there and reunited with some of your Sun Records compadres from back in the day

So sad, so sad...... I saw Billy Lee Riley perform some years back, at Old Style Weekend in Sweden. The wildest and crasiest performance that I have ever seen.

He started off slow and easy but quickly picked up the pace to fast and the crowd was boiling......... the backup band was wild, even stepped through their b*** at one point.

    Good times indeed!

    Thank you Billy!

The first time I heard 'Red Hot' was one of those life changing moments that just don't happen very often.
