Can't stop thinking about Dooley. Came home and hopped on the old desktop looking for some older photos. Here's a few from 2003 at Speed Week. Should bring back some fond memories for quite a few HAMB folks. He was one of the first to greet me to Speed Week when we arrived at the Motel 6. (in suspenders) Bend in the road, Dooley is second from left in white shirt In Gene Winfield's Pits, far left in photo
he was the leader of a gang of salt freaks who caravaned from n'y 1pa iowa and missouri to wendover for our yearly meeting!!!!!! not quite the same without him !!!! love ya dooley!!!!!

Sara my thoughts have been with you and your mother since I heard this sad news. Dave was a great friend and I will cherish all the time I was able to spend with him, be it his many trips to Australia to play with the DLRA and my recent trip to the states where I was lucky to spend close to 2 weeks getting about with him at Bonneville, the HAMB Drags and at his home in Jeff City. His loss saddens me deeply and he will be truly missed on this side of the world. Kyle Here are a few pictures to celebrate this great man in action 'Mr Dave Dooley'
Thank you Kyle for such a great colage of pics to celebrate the life of a really great guy...I can't think of a better way to remember our friend. I want to so badly to be in MO tomorrow to say goodbye but don't see how it's possible... Ya know, I never have pulled in Dave's driveway once without a trailer FULL of "previoulsy enjoyed iron oxide", he was always happy to see me and ask, "what have you hauled in now?" and then glad to enjoy every rusty piece with me, he truely loved hotrods and the life...I'm going to miss him so very much, as I'm sure all who knew him will...
Sarah, I am so sorry to hear of your dad's passing, he was a wonderful guy. God Bless your dad, you, and your family. He will be greatly missed as you can plainly see in this thread. You are in my families prayers.
I never met him, but it's very clear that he was a terrific person. I'm so sorry for your loss. RIP Dools
Sorry to hear about the loss of your Father, Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. God Bless !
Well we put our O'l buddy Dooley to rest today. It was a nice, day, a little cold, but nice. A little over 20 Hot Rods and classics showed up, and lots of people. Lots of car club jackets and T-shirts were worn!! Short but sweet service, with Military honors. As the funeral ended his coffin was covered with salt, B-ville & HAMB drag T shirts,a model car, and other car trinkets. I will miss him more than word can expess. I knew him from when I was just a little feller when he and my dad were building cars, and going to junk yards together. He was just always there, and I never thought about him not being there, it never crossed my mind He was Dooley, we was supposed to live forever. I always looked forward to his return from Austrailia so I could go over and see his pictures and hear the stories. He helped support my model car building when I was just a teenager, and my dad thought they were silly. I am glad to have called him friend, when he was actually much more than that. so many of us would just go over to just hang out and talk in his garage, it was a social spot for us. I will miss that so much. He was one of the first people I would show my new project to, or give a ride to when it was road ready. we always shared info and help, even just little things. It was fun to go over and tease him about his messy/ cluttered shop. Helping to get Sarahs car ready for the HAMB drags the past couple of years has been a blast. God spped Dave. I'll miss you!!! Rusty.
Sorry to hear about the loss. I just met your dad this year at one of the cruise nights. He saw my HAMB shirt and struck up a conversation and we talked for about 20 minutes. I found a pic from 06 Drags that he was in and thought you would like to see it. Tim
Here are my pix of Dave's casket and the cars in attendance. Sorry it took me so long to get them posted. H.A.M.B. will allow 15 pix per post, so here's 15. 12 more to come in next reply.
I am so grateful that there are so many people who cared about him. My mom had a friend take pics at the funeral so when I get those I'll post them. Thanks to everyone for posting comments and pics. My mom doesn't know most of you so it's nice for her to see people in HAMB land saying so many nice things about him. I've already talked to a few people and let them know we still have to finish his 52 Ford. I have a feeling that the day it gets on the road, my dad will have the biggest grin on his face. I know I'd like to do it the way he always wanted: nosed, decked, shaved and get the ol' flatty runnin! Either way, it'll get back on the road and when it does.....look out!
