Tuck- Those stories were so crazy... they were troopers.. Then they had to move several time cause the city kept wanted to run highways through there shop.. Condolences to Mike that the whole Alexander family... Piero
I never knew Larry, but met Mike a couple of times. Sincere sympathy to the family. Another great one from the beginings.
In 1960, at age 15,I hung out at the Alexander Brother's shop when they were building the original version of this car, "The Adonis", for Bill Whetstone.................Great guys, Great craftsmen, Great cars.
R.I.P Larry, Here is to all the cars you and your brother built. Here is to all the creativity that is passed on to the next generation of fabricators. Hope you enjoy their efforts from up above.
I am very saddened to hear this news. I met Larry at Paso a few years back. We talked cars for about 15-20 minutes and he treated me like we had known each other for years. What a great guy! The Alexander Brothers hat pin that he gave me that day has been one of my prized posessions ever since. RIP Larry.
WELL... I can only say that the Alexander Bros. DID more for the guys like FOSSE,TROY,JHONSON,BOYD or ANY of the modern builders. Yea! its hard to WOW the Crowd. BUT C'MON these guys did it with NOTHING almost junk yard parts at times AND WOW! Did they DO IT! The DEROA was so far a head of its time that Chrysler was STUNNED by what a couple of Detroit Bros. Could do!! And sent the truck on a nation wide tour. I grew up near the Bros. Shop and NOW, more than ever reget not having visted there,Detroit is in A very BAD way right NOW and I'm sure the A-BROS. have felt the pains. The A-BROS. were way ahead of Barris or any of the 60's Custom builders. LARRY WIL BE MISSED!!! Mel THANKS!
I've gathered my thoughts abit after the afternoon's shock and I'd like to extend my condolences to Mike, the family and Larry's many, many friends and fans. He was a GREAT guy and it was always a pleasure chatting with him. He will be dearly missed. RIP
unfortunately, many of the pioneers in the hotrodding hobby have either passed on, or are in their golden years....all you 'young' guys have to keep the car-building lamp lit....
My condolences to the Alexander families. It is saddening to lose such a down to earth guy like Larry. He left us with some great memories and he will be dearly missed.
WOW!! been away from a computer for 2 weeks and seeing this just stunned me. Detroit and the World lost another true Kustom Legend. So Sad....my condolences to Mike and Larrys Family....R.I.P LARRY you will be missed
I grew up and lived in the Detroit area for 36 years. Born and raised. My Dad told me all about the cool kustoms they did. The world has lost a true craftsman and artist. R.I.P
The few times I had the pleasure of his company he was always very kind with his time and thoughts........he will be missed.......Godspeed Mr. Alexander.
I just got a call from my pal ken Yanez with the details so I thought I share. Larry's viewing will be Friday from 5-9pm, funeral service will be held on Sat at 11am. L.J. Griffin Funeral Home 7707 N. Middlebelt Westland, MI 48185 734-522-9400
Well said. And all of us middle aged guys owe the younger guys some gentle persuasion in the right direction or an outright kick in the pants. Godspeed, Larry- from the kid who couldn't even pronounce "Deora," but knew that was his coolest Hot Wheels car! I hope the custom car scene gave you as much joy as you gave it influence.
Condolences to Larry's friends and family. The work he and his brother did was always the best. "Adonis..." "Deora..." customs just don't get any better.
R.i.p. Larry, great work turned out by a great pair of brothers, you have touched many people. God bless. Dermott
This is hard hitting news for a big fan of the Alexander Brothers. I've never had the opportunity to have met or talked to Larry, but from all accounts he was a great craftsman and a very fine gentleman. My sincerest condolances to his family, and to his business partner and brother Mike. I'm certain his creative spirit will live on and guide us in our Custom endeavors!
Larry & Mike are old friends. Larry was in fragile health for the last few years. R.I.P. Larry. May God be with you. I was proud to know you and become friends with you. My thoughts are with Larry's family, Mike, and all who loved and appreciated him and his work. Jonnie Below is a pic of Mike, myself, and, Larry at Darryl Starbird's in May of 2003.
Man what a tough couple of months it has been for our world! R.I.P. Larry, another amazing talent. and another of my hero's. You will be missed Larry.
Thanks for posting that Denise. Unfortunately it's a little too far for me, I'd love to go pay my respects. Would be great for the more local folks to get out and give one of the greats a proper send off.
Sorry to hear this. Meat & talked to both of them at the Grand National Roadster Show when it was in the Cow Palace. They where there with the Deora and their awesome green shop truck. Enjoyed that allot! R.I.P. Larry!
