My good friend, fellow Bonneville racer and Slo Poks member, Lionel Pitts lost his battle with cancer early Tuesday morning. Lionel was a man of few words, but had a heart as big as the salt flats and I never heard him say a bad word about anyone. A true Hotrodder to the core, he and his race partner Dave McDonald are some of the few that has run over 300 M.PH. consistantly at Bonneville. You will be missed my friend, God Speed. Gary Vail......
So sorry to hear about Lionel, also I heard Bob Comau passed away, owner of 1939 Chev 4 door, (Old Gold ) Darn,,,,, losing some good guys.. Bob Huffman
Gary, Lionel will be missed, he was a true gentleman with a wealth of knowledge, a skilled driver and fun to be around. I heard about Bob's passing the other night. Bob's '39 has been one of the most memorable drag cars, running in the NW for the last 30 years. Bob's family has suffered far too many family losses lately. Rip Lionel and Bob, two great men.
Sorry for not mentioning Bob, there has been far too much of this type of thing going on here lately. Tomorrow morning, Sunday Nov 5th starting at 10:30 a.m. at the shop of Paul Comeau there will be a pancake and sausage breakfast in honor of Bob. That was one of Bob's favorites. If you knew Bob or the family stop by . Paul and Vicki say that it will go on most of the day and are asking for photo's, stories and racing memoribilia if you have them to be brought and shared.
There is a dash plaque on my fridge from the Oldies race at Boise featuring Bob and Paul's "Old Gold" 39 Chevy sedan. I've had a good thought for Bob and the extended family since I heard of his decline. Bob, you touched a lot of people thru that car (and your others), RIP. Racing is all about the cars, until you meet the people.
