I see and understand the point of this being a way to try and enforce the rule of registering a vehicle properly and legally. That's just common sense to most.

It's just another bullet for the swindlers to have to dodge...they'll still figure out a way around it...those types always do.

But as a note to everybody, we've ALL got to be asking ourselves, "where will it stop?", no matter WHERE we live, and get a hold of it before it CAN'T be stopped.

The govt. never found a tax dollar it didn't like...or want more of.

The reason for the uproar isn't about what's on the surface, but what's below. How long before it becomes expansive? Here in NJ a few years ago, they were tired of not being able to waste more tax dollars, so they started having cops work extra shifts just to do more "check points" and cruising looking for folks that had forgotten about their registration (as they don't give you tags for your plates and rarely send out the reminder postcard). They promised it was temporary.....until they made SO much cash that they now do it full time in some areas. That's why people are up in arms (or not so much in arms, as those are getting increasingly harder to get out there, too....I know, I used to live there and still travel back and forth).

Those who believe that any piece of legislation should be taken at face value are kidding themselves. Everyone outside of CA has a right to be worried, because often times your backwards legislation ripples through the rest of the country and spurs more greedy politicians to get in on the game.

Charging on a sliding scale for registration is crap anyways, in TN (the beloved homeland) it's a universal cost..somewhere around 50 bucks, I think. Some guy saves his already taxed income to build something he likes, builds it through favors, freebies, and trades, ends up with a really nice car in the end. Now, some douche can say that car is worth 50k when he only spent 1/5 of that, yet he has to pay the corresponding tax.

Just like guns. Once they track, tax, and possibly collect all our guns...who's going to be left still holding them? That's right, every thug on the street will still have THREE! .

That's why you have two UNregistered guns for each gun you have that IS registered.

Yep, we ARE here, and the AZ people are PO'ed that we came over.

As others have said, this is aimed at a group of people that played loose and free with the current laws, and are now getting a chance to avoid big problems.
All the guys in other states should be happy, there will be a flow of 'glass cars sold out of state to chose from.... makes up for all those flood cars the southern states sent out a while ago....

Hopefully this post will get the thread closed:

Yes, and that has been the law for a long, long, long time. A decade or more? (not sure) That is one reason people commit fraud to avoid Specially Constructed Vehicle titles.

You must understand that on a flathead engine, or anything older than around the late 1960's or so, you only have to pass super-easy base-line smog standards that include no special equipment. Only tail pipe emissions are checked. If your engine runs decent, there is no problem. They are targeting gross polluters.

No, if Ryan had a history exam based on laws and their inevitable expansion and repercussions, we wouldn't have members with rose colored glasses.

The same way that gun laws keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

I live in CA. I always have and I always will.... I drive Hot Rods & Customs and do not plan to stop..If you want to leave CA Please do. This law does not affect me. I can not believe Pete from SO CAL is cool with this, because most of the vehicles they build will be SCV.

  15. Thanks for the answer! I don't see any problem with that. :)

California wants to get tax dollars from fraud rodders and this is a call to arms?
    fucking wow.
When you read, does it all just look like mixed up letters or can you sometimes actually comprehend what is being written?

Because with things like this, the true criminals find a way around it while the other 99.9% of the population inevitably become the target when the govt. figures out it isn't making the money it wants.

The possible up-side to this is that the "Real Steel" cars will survive and increase in value, while the plastic ones will be deemed SCV's, which they are.

    this is hilarious..

So the kit consists of stuff that basically changes the entire powerband of your engine, unless you have a 215hp '86 TPI engine ( i assume that is what that is). yay... that's good news.....

what do they do if the offending vehicle has a 241 red ram? My guess is, either you won't be able to license it or you'll have to put in an sbc.

they also talk about specifications for fuel tanks.. I doubt a '32 tank hanging off the back of the car is what they have in mind.

the way I read it, anything not registered as the year it was built (aside from ones with titles) will have to pass emissions with the kit. I don't see anywhere where it says that a brookville with a flathead will have to pass flathead emissions except for the 500 exempt cars.. everyone else will

It looks like this affects every one of you that built a brookville. not just a tiny percentage. I see all these posts talking about "the Criminals", so everyone on here has the exact title for thier car? no one has built a brookville? Anything that is not directly tied to a title the existed back in 1932 basically. Also who's to say you lied about registering if it is already done... are they gonna check for you? How? I'm just thinking about my own stuff and theres no way to prove one way or another that my panel truck is correct for the VIN on the title... guess who usually wins those arguments..

The idea that "the sky is not falling" is exactly why california has blackouts and is broke... just keep looking the other way till it is too late..

I hear ya. But I would say that the problem is the true criminals and not the legislation. Because some will always find a way to skirt the law isn't a reason to avoid laws.

Exactly! Criminals, of any kind, simply do not follow the rules or laws. It doesn't matter if you're talking taxes, titles, guns or immigration. The current federal government as well as most state operations, on all levels, simply fails to use existing law to control crime. Hey, if we come up with a new law for that same old problem we can easily add in a bunch of crap to fleece the sheeple.....

$24.00 registers anything in Tennessee from a motorcycle to a Prevost,
and at present there's no luxury tax or annual excise tax. Plus, trailers of any kind don't need to be registered, except 18-wheelers and the like.

  25. Cali is going after the HOTfrauder's, I hate the taxes here, I hate the expense to live here, but I got kids and still have a job that dropped by a 50% wage cut, I still lucky I guess...so what else is new, but the kit cars, SCV builders maybe are the one's their really after, I hope so..What I read beside this infor on SEMA, is there are some pretty stupid name calling, and state tagging going back and forth from this thread, from folks that are suppose to be brothers of the asphalt. If it was illegally registered, you might get caught..might.. same as many "grey Market" cars from europe came in via canada in the late 70's early 80's , with the dot stuff. someone will always find a loop hole, the SCA builders and title companys have been playing it for a while..not that they were all bad, or fraud bad, alot of barn finds and wrecked cars from the past that had no or lost bloodline's to follow to registe were aval, so a new one had to be created..that helped put alot of cool classic cars back on the road for many to see and enjoy, but big demand created a big market for titles, and a easy way for some to use the loop hole, their closing it up, better for anyone paying that have to pay, for the others that are not, (honest have always not matter what the topic, has too)will it help and cost people less that do the right thing?.. no..the powers will just spend it on something else cause now they have it.and will still NEED more ,they will tell folks see we're doing our jobs you elected us to do.. 4 more years, my kids will be out of high school, and I'm out of here, I'll miss it, really good folks, kool places, but it just cost more then I can afford to enjoy any longer.. I can read,(can't spell) Their going after the crooks and the slicks out here, not the decent rodders. (at least for now)

  26. Hey, let's send that letter to Glenn Beck and see what he does with it. Like our personal health care, the gov wants to own everything in our lives so they can lead us to their world.
I have a friend who was Texas politician for 30 years. You won't believe some of the stuff he tells me that goes on behind closed doors. Like he say's "What would you do if the people gave you the keys to the kingdom to do what you want with it?" And he also said something that many people never take into consideration, - no matter who they vote for, what side they are on, what party they belong to, every politician wants to get elected for selfish reasons only. We've had elected officials in this country for two hundred years, what ha sthat gotten us? Not much. No matter who is office, we the people give them the power and they do what they want with it.

    Mikey did it

This should be a message to all car hobbiests in the 49 remaining states ! Get your
local groups together and police yourselves .So you government doesn't have to do
it for you. The Kalifornia government is giving amnesty to some people who are doing
things that they shouldn't have been doing anyway .At least they are offering an olive branch before they lower the Boom.
Us hayseeds in Idaho have watched these programs for 30 years with our lobbying group United Street Rods of Idaho USRI .We have taken on problems concerning titling and emissions ourselves way before NSRA and SEMA .

  28. It seems to me this is a two part thing. I understand folks have been ripping the government off for years. Sort of like those TV commercials where the folks are proud they've ripped the government off on their income taxes but "Tax Relief" came to their rescue and they got out of a 50,000 dollar tax deal for $200. It's not like the government ain't been rippin' us off for years but that's our fault for puttin' up with it. I guess I don't understand what the connection is between the guys that ripped the government off with their registration and the deal about a "green" motor .. I read that confusin' shit twice. Anyway glad I'm in Dixie ... we don't have any inspection here except a Trooper can stop anyone he wants to and inspect yer rig. I don't see any more clunkers on the road here than anywhere else.

A perfect example of California politics reaching far beyond the borders of the "Golden State" is Queen Nancy in Washington!!

This is targeted at kit cars. But I agree it wont be long for the rest to follow. Give them a inch and they will take it all. They have no love for our hobby/lifestyle so dont be suprised if it carrys over.
