Forty years or so ago, I towed my 2500(?)-lb. roadster on a 2-wheel trailer from San Berdoo to Orange County with my El Camino with a 2-wheel trailer. In retrospect, I cringe to think if the trailer had a blowout on the trip there and back. I never again did that again. Twenty years earlier we flat-towed our 1500(?)-lb. drag roadster to the drags with a $60 38 Chevy. I think that was a lot safer.
I was at the shop of a friend of a friend's today and saw this. I'd never seen anything like it before. Obviously it's not currently a race car hauler, probably never was, but I could certainly see a vintage race car being rolled out of the back of it. I gave the owner my card and said I sure would like to hear from him if he ever decided to sell it even though I have no idea what I'd do with it. Lynn
There are people around here living in stuff way less cool than that. The wind drag is not really an issue below 15 mph. Put a boat tail on the back and you're good for 35! I love it such classic lines!!!
You can tell there was a great mind towards aerodynamics in the way the windshield was tilted back to cheat the wind...
Years ago I noticed a very "factory looking" decal on the back of some little box-of-an-import-car that just said "Screw Aerodynamics". At first I thought it was the real deal, but finally decided it was just someone with a sense of humor. Lynn
I've got a FED build in progress - GM Holden I6 powered, 138 motor stretched to 155ci, Powerglide. Looking to make it as traditional as I can, but still meet IHRA rules so I can race at my local track. Chassis should come home in a fortnight, so figured I should get more serious about the trailer to carry it on. Wanted an open trailer, as I won't do many overnight runs (and because modern kids need to see dragsters on trailers and get excited ). Wanted a simple single axle tilt trailer like this: Didn't work out that way as Aussie trailer rules were pretty restrictive. Ended up with a tilt trailer, though a little more complex than I had hoped. Tow car will be my avatar, as per the photos. Cheers, Harv
Or barn red! And paint the barn doors on the back... Also really like that tilt trailer. Oh and post some pictures of the tow vehicle. And some details... You guys down under have some really neat cars.
Just about the handiest thing I've ever been fortunate enough to own. It's hauled Race Cars, Junk Cars, Project Cars, Hot Rods, Water Tanks Etc. But the General is one handy piece of machinery. IT was built a loooong time ago to haul Midgets and Sprint Cars in the Santa Clara/San Jose area. I wish I had some of those pictures. I rescued it from the back of a large Plumbing shop when others had given up. It's done nothing but return the favor over and over again.
That’s right Rod, everything except the 53 sheet metal was used in the filming of “The Hunted” with Tommy Lee Jones.
