Anyone used this type of set up in a street rod? I am building a 36 chevy sedan and was thinking that sliders instead of shackles might be cool. I know some guys have used the sliders on the street with success (with caveats of keeping them clean and lubed, etc) More wondering about the leaf applications in a street rod. Any thoughts are appreciated. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Chrysler-Type-Multi-Leaf-Spring-200-Lb-Rate,31546.html http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Heavy-Duty-Chrysler-Type-Leaf-Spring-Sliders,5817.html
Someone used to sell parallel leaf conversions for Fat fender cars that used that style. It allowed them to go lower without having to use lowering blocks. They made a bit of noise, but other than that seemed to work fine on the street (It might have been SAC before they went out of business)
thanks for the responses. I did see the post by Iron Maiden. Interesting stuff. I think the sliders should be fine. Any opinions on the use of the race springs? Any advice on rates? I am guessing that either #175 or #200 is about right given the weight of the sedan...
Well you need to know the weight, sprung and unsprung. Andy has a great cheapy tech on building a weight cell to take the guess work out if it.
