I have a 1936 chevy p/up ratrod with original steering and original front axle. I want to put a geo metro rack n pinion on the orginal axle to replace original steering box. My front suspension is the leaf springs. Some say no due to bump steer and I'm not sure if this is a good choice. Your thoughts? Thanks wmhenry

  2. Search "rack and pinion" here on the HAMB, you will see many reasons why not.

and we really dont care about your rat rod either.

to answer your question, no rack is not good with solid axle type front end. the rack has to be mounted to the axle and not the frame or you will have severe bumpsteer issues, but then again its just a rat rod pile of junk so have at it.
