    Don't know how I missed that thread but every thread on the Stovebolt on this topic that I've seen has gotten the same response from me.

    I think it's a bad idea.

    I've been saying that for a long time. But just a few months ago my brother bought a straight-axle pickup with rack and pinion. First thing he discovered when it came off the the trailer was that the slip joint had bound up and busted the steering column loose.

    Did I say I thought it was a bad idea?

    Next time I see it on the Stovebolt I'm going to point people at El Polacko's very articulate response here.
