This question was raised in post #5 by @gene-koning . Would have been easy to check at that stage. It always amazes me how many people disregard their gauge as the problem, and then find out it actually is............

Twenty8. Couldn’t agree more. I think I was over thinking the possible problem and not really considering what was right in front of me!

Swapped out sender and temp gauge. Gauge was 190 and heat gun at water pump housing was 180-185. Thank you everybody! I should have not tried to over think this for so long. You all much appreciated.

Occam’s Razor, also spelled Ockham’s Razor, also called law of economy or law of parsimony, principle stated by the Scholastic philosopher William of Ockham (1285–1347/49) that pluralitas non est ponenda sine necessitate, “plurality should not be posited without necessity.”

    Or:

The least complicated explanation is likely the correct one.

Hey everyone, hopefully I'm not jacking this post but it seems like the correct one to ask my question. First off, just joined, I'm new with cars, and just got myself a 1947 Ford Super Deluxe with a flathead V8. Previous owner installed an aluminum radiator. It has a pressurized rad cap (maybe 12 psi?). No engine overheating problems but the rad cap keeps building a lot of pressure. First drive, cap blows off and lose about half my coolant. Refill, make sure the cap was on correctly go for a shorter drive, cap is on but smoke is coming out of oil filler/breather even with engine temp around 170ish. Next morning, I go out to see if I need to add any coolant and just check it out and I take the rad cap off and it blows a bunch of cold coolant out of the radiator. Lots of pressure in there. Anyone know what is going on and why it is building so much pressure? Thanks for the help! Radiator and flathead enfine 47 Ford Deluxe.jpg

Unfortunately that doesn't sound good, especially if the pressure remains after it cools down. Could be combustion pressure getting into the cooling system (head gasket ?).
Also, check that the overflow is not obstructed.

You should probably start a separate thread for this.
