I am building a 30 Ford sedan with the standard SBC and a Walker radiator and wondered what everyone else is using for the bottom radiator hose. I can't find one that fits so I suspect it would have to be a piece from something else. Any ideas?
didn't think it would bend sharp enough although I have never used it. I figured only a molded hose would work
I recenently had this same problem, but with a different combo. I solved it by fabing some leftover mandrel bends from a set of headers I had built into a hard version of the hose I needed. I then connected the tubing to the radiator with short pieces of radiator hose so it would have a little flex. Hope this helps.
Good idea, I have some header stuff leftover too, did you flair the ends at all to help the hose stay and seal?
just be careful if going the rigid mandrel bend idea, especially if you have rubber motor mounts and a shakey motor. You can crack you rad neck in no time. leave as much hose as possible for the vibrations..
just buy the tightest rubber elbow bend you can find at the parts house, trim it to fit, put a little lube on it and wiggle the heck out of it, its a tight fit. depending on your distance, mine was super tight and a pain, but got it on and looks good.
Just bend a piece of brake line, a coat hanger, welding rod, etc. to the shape you are looking for, and take it to an auto parts store and search the wall of hoses. I have solved every hose dilema that I have encountered by doing this. You might have to buy a larger hose to only use a section of it.
I used Goodyear P/N 60620... which I think is a similar fit to 55-57 chevy lower hose... in my '35 Ford with SBC. Not quite the same... but maybe similar fit problems. I had to trim off both ends, and it was still really tight, and was bent a little more than the molded bend. So I got one of those inner hose springs out of a different lower hose, cut it to length and stuck it inside. It was a real pain to get on, but worked perfect, and I don't have to worry about it kinking and restricting flow. I've attached a pic, in case it helps.
