I'm trying to find upper and lower hoses that will work in my pickup. The outlet on the top of the motor is straight ahead, and my alternator is mounted to the top left. The radiator connection is also to the left. My lower arrangement is typical with the radiator connection on the right and the standard SBC water pump outlet. There is a lot of distance between the pump and the radiator since the pump is somewhat higher than original Ford.

Seems like flex hose is your friend, or, perhaps a custom pipe and two short pieces of hose at each end of the pipe.

I used a fabricated pipe and 2 straight pcs of 1-1/2" industrial hose about 4" long each end for connection, same for my bottom hook up but 1-7/8" on the WP and 1-3/4" on the radiator.

I actually prefer this.... as a replacement hose is only a Rubber House or Napa away if needed.

  6. on a `40 with a SBC i find the 55/57 lower hose doesn't work well as it does in earlier cars

i have used napa # 8685 with good results...just cut an inch or two from each end

You seem to have your work cutout for you, but make sure any tubing you use doesn't come from a muffler shop. That material has some kind of secret sauce coating which will leach into your engine and screw up the works. Your alternator seems located very far to the left (driver's side) of the engine. On my '40, the manifold outlet exits behind the alternator, a short piece of radiator hose connects to a length of tubing purchased from a sheetmetal shop (no coating) with a gentle 90 bend toward the radiator, finally ending in another short piece of hose connecting to the radiator.

The pipe is 1-1/4" schedule 40 SS. it measures 1-5/8" O.D. the ends have been machined down to accept the 1-1/2" I.D. hose leaving raised barbs to keep it from blowing off.

  9. The Aluminum pipe piece came from the metal supply house, schedule 80. Yes, the alt is way over there, the po installed it using those brackets....the fan pulley comes of to change the belt.

On 40's with a small block and a walker I use 7885 from Napa for the top hose-have done a dozen this way-can send a picture if needed
