Has anyone here used Radir slicks? I have not contacted them yet, but am thinking of using them on my 29 roadster build. anyone have experience with them on the street? ( I have not checked yet to see if they are DOT approved) I have heard that some cheater slicks are DOT approved, but do not know that for a fact. If anyone has any experience with these tires, or opinions, I would like to hear what you have to say, good or bad. Thanks ---Jim
10.00 x 15. Still breaking them in. One must do burnouts until the "cup" is gone from the surface. I like 'em. All new, not recapped. Towel City gets high marks from many here. Radial carcass with slick retread. Cokers Firestone is a new tire. Some say the look like snow tires however.
I like the RADIR Slicks a lot. I'm on my second set, on my 34 Delivery. I drive it a lot, and I never had any problems. They're the { 9.oo-15 } X 32'' tall with a 9'' tread. I mean no tread ! lol I just like the looks. But I do have to keep a eye on the Doppler radar, and I never drive in the rain. Ron....
I emailed Radir back in early April with this exact question - here's the reply I got: I also asked Towel City about their slicks being DOT - here's their reply: granted the slicks are re-treads, but if you gotta have the DOT markings, this is an option. They also told me that if you have to have the DOT markings to be sure to let them know when ordering Hope this helps!
8.20-15 radirs here... can’t report on street use though Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks for all the reply's. I am looking at the Radir tires because I want a 32" tall tire in 15" rim size, and these seem to be the best option. I was not necessarily looking for a "slick" but I do like the look. I doubt that I would ever be driving the roadster in the rain, as it is fenderless, and topless. If you have ever driven a car like that in the rain, you won't do it very often again. Cleaning the car up afterwards is also a pain in the ass. any others comments or information is welcome.---Jim
I ran Radir Slicks on my Sedan and in the rain too. Real nice tires, but as everyone knows, in wet conditions they can be very spooky. They are Bias Ply tires too. How about considering the Hoosier tire #19275 that are 31" tall and 10.5" tread width https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hoo-19275/overview/
Alaska Jim - Fenderless, Radirs are the best looking tire. Some have sanded and buffed off the "Not" In the Not for highway use lettering. Not me, I just heard the guys talkin'.
Some of these slick manufacterures offer tire grooving, like dirt track tires and such. I wonder if that would help when you encounter the inevitable rain storm while out and about?
I second the wet driving dangers. My advice; NEVER take slicks out on damp pavement. I run DOT heavily treaded light truck tires on the back of my Willys and even those are goosey. Was driving to the March Meet this year and it was raining as usual for that meet. Stopped on HWY 65 to turn left onto Famoso road. When it was clear I gave it mild throttle and the rear broke loose and I was in full rotating slide in the middle of Hwy 65. There was a stopped 16-wheeler turning right onto '65 from Famoso and I was headed right toward him. Luckily I got a bit of traction and straightened it out and continued on my trek. Don't do it.
