I’m looking to replace the hairpins on my LSR roadster. The car was originally built in the late 60’s. The length of the hairpin is 33” with no ends. The front are split clevis and the rear a Ford style tapered rod end. Total length installed is about 37-1/2”. I just started looking and see the ones in Speedway show 27 or 36. They state 5/8” threaded on each end. I have the tooling to add 5/8 threads to the front if the tubing can be cut. Is the tapered style end available for 5/8” thread? And if the tubing the correct ID I can add threads inside. Thanks
I'm sorry but Speedway is always the last resort for me or to look and see if they have a name brand part that I am hunting for. Some of our Hamb Ch***is builders can probably build you a set to order that you know for sure will p*** Tech. No dinking around with make fit stuff but built from your drawing. A couple even run at Bonneville and know exactly what is needed to p*** tech.
@B***, Brian B*** would be one that comes to mind as for building some new hairpins. He has fabbed stuff for several cars including Lee Sicilios Daytona
Check Roadster Supply in Stanton. I've also used 100's of sets of Pete & Jake's hairpins on customer ch***is with no failures.
5/8 rod ends are much smaller on the ball than 11/16. Another option is a 5/8 tie rod heim joint taper adapter to replace rod end.
I inspected for the SCTA for over 25 years. Speedway is a reference for me with what’s being typically manufactured and available today. If there were off the shelf ones I trusted that were made to cut for length, I would not hesitate to do that. After more searching I will need 11/16” ends for ch***is bosses I have now which Speedway doesn’t even list. I also know local ch***is builders who have competed in LSR I will bring mine to copy. Mine were chromed when I bought the car and I’ve continued to use them but they have minor rust I’m no longer comfortable using. Thanks for your response.
