Have any of you guys installed a rag joint on a 54 steering column? I made a deal to get a newer column for my 54 and it has a rag joint to connect the box to the column, and I am looking for any tech, tips or tricks.

I don't have any pics yet as I am waiting for the column to show up from Kansas.

Well yes but had to do one on my 69 Ford truck . I hate those things . I would rather use a universal joint to connect the two together .

If I remember correctly the side to the steering box was threaded like a steering wheel and the column side was a D shape with a set screw in it . You will have to see which rag joint you have . If just a D shape with set screws on both sides the you will have to either grind or file a flat spot for the joint to slip on the round shaft of the steering box . Just look at the ends of the rag joint and see what you have . They do work great in an accident when you have a spear for a steering column . They usually brake so you don't eat the steering wheel !

    Hope this helps some .

  4. I fitted '66 thunderbird column into Michelles ranchwagon . Should be some pic's in my album - no laughing at the ugly temporary wheel tho please!
