They were just what I had on hand. My stock A actuator rods had cross-threaded studs. The AA rods (or what I was told they were) just look beefier all around...

  2. Ok. Thanks. I thought you were onto something new with the drop axle mechanical brake thing. Did you have to make a spacer to extend the 32 spring perch up a bit for the brake connection?

Nope, by going with only a 3 1/2" stretch-drop, no spacer is required. There is a very slight down-angle on the actuating-rods but all clearances are on the money, and the brakes work, and adjust, fine. I'll get a couple pics of the front end when I am back in the garage...

  4. Are you gonna have it at the Amocat open house?

That's the plan, I'll be putting in my B dizzy, and re-doing the carb linkage tonight. Unfortunately, I've got to work that day, but even if I'm late, I'll be there...

Well, more progress today. Got the B Distributor in and timed. What a huge difference it is not having to jack with that spark lever.

I also relocated my jury-rigged throttle return spring, so my throttle-plates actually close all the way when lifting off the pedal. I still have to tweek my linkage, for which I got more measurements and did more maths. Looks like I'll be making a new bell-crank tomorrow.

Anyway, here's the promised pics of the front end...

It runs, it drives, and it stops. We took the tub for a spin 'round town today, and all went pretty darn well. She's running a bit rich, but really that's all I can complain about. I'll get it dialed in, and we should be good to go for the rest of the summer.

Here's that side view I owe you guys...

...behind the tub is the -big- project. Our 105 year old house. We are hoping to have the outside restoration done this summer, that means a roof, replacing what shingles and clapboards need it (it has the original siding) and re-painting along the way. Thus the slow projects on the automotive front...

Hah, never quite made the connection to Archie's jalopy...

Fenderless, hoodless, with a banger and a downdraft. Yep, pretty much identical.

Lol. You're right. The HDL roadster is a much better match.

The front end is all bolt-together early ford parts, the only thing modified from stock is the axle which is a stock A axle, 3 1/2" stretch-dropped by Okie Joe. The stretch-drop is essential, since this maintains the king-pin to perch dimension that you will need for the brake-rods.

The Spindles are '32-34 Ford spindles which clear everything perfectly without modification, with '32 Spring perches. All other parts are stock Model A pieces in their stock locations.

Now I just gotta get rubber mounted to the new rear wheels (thanks again Rickybop) and get them mounted. I think they are early '30s Lincoln wire-wheels, but regardless, they bolt up and are a 17" wheel that's a little wider than the normal '33 Ford 17" wires.

Oh, and the wheels will be wrapped these, in 700-17...

  14. Everyone is starting to catch onto 17's on the rear. I'm sure they will look great on your car.

They are Coker's Firestones that they seem to market towards the restorers of the pre-war "Big-Cars". I think they were OEM on Cadillacs and the like. And I know they were used on '38 Buicks, since when I had mine, I found a factory-photo of those exact tires on a '38 Century, but in 650-16, which Coker doesn't make...

  18. I love the 17's on my coupe! I run a 750 on the rear. It gives a nice overdrive effect. I got caught do 65 the other day:). The car still had more in it but I didn't feel like breaking anything.

I love that roadster Chris. What size were the tires in the back, 700's or 750's?

I ordered the 700's to better keep with the mid-'40s look (in my mind at least). For some reason, when I see really-big n' littles, I start to think '50s, but yours looks like just the proportions that I want.

On another note, the wheels I got from Rickybop, I'm now pretty much certain that they are '35 Lincoln Wheels after going through as many pictures and specs. Now I just gotta find hubcaps that fit them, the centers are bigger than your average ford ones...

  20. The rear tires are 7.00's on that roadster

  21. What do the wheels look like? I have some Chrysler Royal 8's that are 17's and take a bigger cap

Wow! that answers a bunch of questions with a single answer.

    I think I need to ask Mr. Oki Joe for a stock , 3 1/2" stretch-dropped, A axle!

    Big Mahalo for the Info!

Finally, the package I've been waiting for...

The wheels are at the powder-coating shop and I'll have these 'stones dropped off there to get mounted up this afternoon.

As far as the wheels go, the one that Rickybop pictured above is one of the two I got from him. Its confusing to say the least exactly what they are but they are 17x3.75-ish and have the early-ford bolt pattern and center-bore. I did manage to find a "Motor Wheels Corp." Manufacturer Stamp on one of them, so that nails down one piece of the mystery. 1935 Lincolns used the same size wheels, with the same bolt pattern, and Motor Wheels was a supplier to Ford, so that's what I'm calling them. If, and when, I find a set of '35 Lincoln Hubcaps (which I'm finding are super-rare), and they fit the odd-size hub, that should clinch, or disprove, the theory...

Whew, its been a while since I've posted anything of note 'round here. The last month has been busy, busy, busy.

I got married the middle of last month, and since then it has been go, go, go on the house, and to top it all off I got furloughed for a little more than a week, so all my play-money has pretty much went down the drain.

In any case, the tub did its duty for the wedding...
