got both motor mounts in but only one side kinda finished . well the prior design turned into something else because the grinding became too intricate and nothing could grind into the detail i came up with so the new design came into play after everything was welded up and this just kinda happened. i still have to turn a piece out on the lathe to move the rubber mount up . more on that later on .
I think I like the way they came out better than your original plan as well. Less cluttered. I think simple always looks more factory. Great work!!
I have: http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=606187 It's the only way to do em properly. Ed
This looks very like a roadster I'm building. I'm at the final put it together stage now but it was a hard 5 months work, I'm telling you! Ed
very nice work ed !! i have never see your thread about the A crossmember before . i really enjoy making it look like it was supposed to be there !! finished up the other mount this after noon . boxing plates soon!!
Most of us can fabricate something that will work, but few have the artistic view to make it not only blend in, but make it look amazing! You my friend have that talent! Keep up the good work!!
thanks guys !! heres what im into today . made these on the lathe . first thing i ever made. well more or less helped a good friend as he made them here they are in action acting as a riser . the way henry would have installed a remake of his A crossmember.
Looks great!, I have one question, how does that mount work? if the bolt is tapped into the piece you turned up,or bolted through it, that mount is not acting as it was intended to, and vibration from the engine will be directly channeled from the water pump, and into the ch***is. you need to have the underside of the big silver piece resting on a flat plane, and the piece below it under the flat plane, with the step facing up, and through a large hole. That way the bolt is seperated from the frame by the sandwiched rubbers, and vibration is absorbed, as Henry intended. Please dont take this as criticism, just trying to help.
i still have 1 more piece to make and weld to the top exactly what you are describing lowsquire the mounts are just visually taking up space . just couldnt figure out a way to get it all in one piece . no criticism at all!!
Looks great! Just curious as to why the engine will be sitting so high. Is it purely for aesthetics or?? -Mitch
thanks mitch & frenchy. nothing short of aesthetics .top of the carb hits right below the top bead on the firewall . i want to fill the engine compartment a little more visually instead of the motor sitting low slung.
frame is pretty close to being finished up . have to c notch it and put the las set of boxing plates in . finished up the a crossmember yesterday
still gettin situated Ray . unpacking between working !! thanks slobroy put the spring back together with a few leaves left out and put it where it belong! time to get an eye pleasing notch worked out !!
