Does anyone know anything about window screens for the Rambler Cl***ic? My boyfriend has a '66 770. How difficult would it be to find the original screens to buy? I ***ume they are pretty rare but maybe I don't know where to look. I have looked on ebay but not sure where else to look. Would I maybe find them for sale at a meet or is it too rare of an accessory? We are also thinking of having them custom made but we are not sure how they worked, did they snap in? Did the window have to be down in order to put them in? Thanks.
Look in the back under the bbq grille they may have em stored there or behind the fold up picnic table near the firewall Dave
Hey Tia... I've never seen them myself but I'd bet they would be easy to fabricate. All the stuff is readily available. I suppose the easy way to mount them would be to "pinch" them into the gl*** run channel by rolling the window back up under them. Click on the intro banner and tell us a bit about you and your friends car, yourself etc... The cut off date here is actually 1964 as this site is more for the nostalgic customs and Hot Rods, but I imagine window screens could fit into anything! Doubt you'll find the info on a Street Rod site anyway. LoL
You really need to do an intro.... Also, check an AMC site. The old Rambler screens are ALMOST extinct. If you find them you are lucky. For the WTF crowd, Ramblers had always been known for being able to sleep in them. You can fold the front and connect it to the back seat and make a king sized bed. Very cool... They sold a set of screens that pop in so you can sleep with the windows down and not get attacked by bugs. Hyfire
Thats kinda cool! "The only race we're interested in is the Human Race." That only lasted a year or two though...LoL I like Ramblers ever since I had an American 440. Tough as an anvil despite its weak knees!
You need to KEEP checking Ebay - I have seen them there SEVERAL times over the years - I never saw a set for my American - it was ALWAYS for a Cl***ic!!!! Keep looking you'll find them. As for how they work...have you looked in their old "Accessories" booklet - it shows lots of their optional stuff - maybe enough to allow you to fashion your own set until you find origionals. The AMC sites might prove fruitful - but be prepared they will most likely ROCK YOU for the $$$$
