Thank you for clarifing. Actually, semis require the sturdyness of a straight axle where trucks and other light duty cars don't. Now look at 4 wheel drive trucks (jeeps for instance) and their straight axle in the front... sure it is because it has to operate like a rear axle sometimes and put some torque to the road but they do have... straight.... I am just trying to cause conversation.... :(

  2. Your blanket post that disc brakes stop better than drum brakes. That being the case I am sure that the discs off a Harley will work way better than the 12" drums on the Buick.

I got nothing against disc brakes and am a firm believer that they can be traditional not because Bugatti had them in '33 but because they were being used at least from San Francisco North to Seattle clear back into the '50s. Not on all cars mind you but on enough for them to be considered a traditional hot rod part at least to those of us who remember.

It has nothing to do with trad at all it has to do with discs do not work better on every car in every situation. I believe that the discs off a Pinto (Mustang II for the street rod crowd) will stop a '36 Ford just fine, but the suspension, rack and brakes are too light for a 3200 LB + '56 Ford, they are just under engineered.

Now if you are that big on disc brakes and want them because they perform (I am all about performance) ditch the ever popular metric GMs and buy yourself a set of 4 or 6 piston brembos. While you are at it you may as well go the full route get yourself a 5.2 Liter LS, a full on late model Corvette suspension, Lecarro Seats, Full harness. . .

    The list goes on.

I have noticed that some of the fellas are a little put out when the talk comes around to "traditional" or "period correct".

Here is a quote from the Boss from a couple of years back.

This message board is a forum for TRADITIONAL hot rods and customs

If you are not interested in talking about either, go away. Not only have there been a lot of OT posts that I've had to delete lately, but there are also a lot of non-traditional posts. There are other message boards for that stuff.... This is not a cute and sweet community with lots of compassion for all things "street rod" - this board was built to be focused on the traditional and thats how it will stay... Please be conscious of that

I pretty much share this sentiment although I am not as tactful as the boss. My invitation for you to take a hike (you being the folks that don't like talk of traditional rods and customs) would normally be laced with expletives and on a good day even suggestions that you parents may well be related.
