apparently at some point people began to believe anything "rare" must also be valuable...i had a "rare" 69' camaro, no not a yenko or anything cool it had a 6 cyl, 3 on the tree AND a bench seat! yes factory original (theres one) bench seat in a 69 camaro..rare? yes..desirable or valuable? no.....

    you guys forgot one.....

"all the hard work has been done"

on a car with no motor, transmission, all the stainless and chrome have been removed and the holes filled with bondo or acorn nuts..., and it has no interior.......

but,,, it's been shot flat black, and has new tires and wheels.......

OK??? so that's the "hard work"??????

    "rare"

    "mostly original equiptment"

"many new parts, over $16000 invested"

it's not a "rare" original anymore if someone changed the motor, windows, seats, lifted it... ect totaling, $16000 worth of mods.......

the original truck was rare..... suped up modified trucks are not rare....

I think that truck is a PRIME example of what this post is about...

lets say that they only made 500 of a car....... we'll call it a 1950 excitra

that would mean they are RARE!!!! it would be hard to find one....

BUT.... if you cut the whole car up,,, take off 60% of the original parts, you tear out the 4 cylinder and put in a big block, you put it on a S10 frame, completly change the interior, chop it, chanell it ect..... MY KIND OF CAR DON'T GET ME WRONG... BUT....it is no longer a 1910 excitra,,,,

not it is a 1950 modified car...... there are TONS OF THOSE.....

check ebay,,, how hard is it to find a "modified 1950 car"

the only people that "REALLY" care if they are "RARE" are vintage original collectors.. and a vintage original collector wants a ....... ORIGINAL...

Rare is how I like my meat cooked, Mint and Cherry are ice cream flavors. "Professionally Restored" = some took money to work on the thing.

  7. Some vehicles are not as rare as they should be, as they were junk when they were new. If there is only one example left, it won't be particularly desirable.

Rare, "one of a kind" thankfully..easy fix or restore. I still find myself drawn to these stupid ads. I do old police cars too and its even worse, every car with a spotlight is a "interceptor".

I had a buddy that sold used cars every ad he placed had "truely immaculate" in them.

I use to have a rare 71 gmc sprint .Did it bring me more dollars when I sold it.No .An Elcamino brings more money . The word rare makes people think of treasure and hitting a goldmine ,Just another sentence enhancer like ,Ran when parked ,Barn find Barn finds are funny there are alot of moisture and damp floors in barns .Ive seen alot of rot buckets and now everything is a barnfind.

  11. Does rare include not "well done"?

  12. A few more...

"Ready for paint" Definition: Sure it is, as soon as I strip off the fresh coat of rattle can primer, dig out all the bondo and fiberglass "repairs" and weld in every patch panel available.

"It is what it is"- Um, I guess it is.

"All the hard work is done"- Definition: Yes, i'm sure it is and now that you've taken every single nut, bolt and screw apart and thrown most of it in a bunch of cardboard boxes, did a little bodywork on the tub and laid down a fresh coat of primer, I can take your word for it that everything is there. All I have to do for the big win is replace 7k worth the chrome, throw a quick 10k paint job on it, another 5k for an interior and buy a parts car to replace all the stuff that got thrown out when you moved.

"No title but you can get one easy"- Definition: I can't be bothered to get one because I know it's a pain in the ass but I still want top dollar for the car anyway.

"This is the last time I will list this"- Definition: So far nobodys been stupid enough to meet my 10k reserve on a 1k car so i'm mad now.

I actually had a guy tell me once that a car he had was rust free. When I finally saw it, he had actually cut away the wheelwells where the rust was. So I guess at that point it was rust free. LOL

A ready to race drag car that "Has Never Been Raced". Bring Trailer. Sure...
The guy that told me that did look like he ate his children and obviously shouldn't fit in the car. You never know. He did say I can trust him.

When I moved to Georgia, every old car I'd go look at, the seller would tell me it was an old moonshiner car.

1 of only 2500 with blue interior, radio delete and posi. Muscle car guys are full of that kind of pointless crap.

Rare usually means nobody wanted it when it was new and probably not too many do now either.
