thank you sir. I’m proud of him. He actually knows more about the 50s car than I do. He is also starting to get the basics down pretty good. He’ll make a good shade tree mechanic.

cleaning up shop then it’s time!!!! See if the big block will fire up.

We ran the engine once. Then changed oil after it started. Sounds pretty good in person. Just trying to get it to move on it’s own power until we do a full restore. The 59 is also coming along. Wife cleaned it up some today. Going to put it on the lift next week and make it road worthy.

I had the teletouch motor rewound along with fabricating a heat shield and it still gave me trouble. It would worth perfectly when the engine was cold but when up to running temperature it wouldn't shift into any gear and I never used the park position as it really struggled to get out of it.
Having said that I wouldn’t change it to regular column shift setup, it was too cool for that.

    I had a 58 Villager wagon 10-12 years ago.

this rules, I have a 59 hardtop some years ago that was absolutely mint. it was a great daily driver!!

  8. It looks like at least some 57-59 Mercury convertibles also used the wrap-around rear window. Not that they'd be that much easier to find than one for a Continental.

  9. i assumed since its a 4 door, it would need a longer roof

  10. You know . . . You're right! I forgot to count the doors. Though the top mechanism does look similar. But the 58-60 Continental convertibles seem to have all been 2 doors and had the glass roll-down back window like the Breezeway Mercurys and a powered boot panel to conceal the lowered top. That's not going to make the job any easier!

Either way, it sounds like you'd better be prepared to make a lot of precise measurements before even considering building a '59 Edsel 4 door rag-top.
