Are Edmunds 24 stud heads 20250326_201253.jpg rare?

Not really. I have been able to accumulate 4 sets of 8BA's in the last 10 years (plus an extra left side). I also ran across some earlier (center outlet) heads, but I don't use them.

Mr. @tubman is there a reason you don't run them?

I am running two sets, one on my DD '51 coupe and a set on my "Hot Rod" engine. The other two sets I picked up because the price was right and they had minor problems. I clean them up, remove broken studs and restore any stripped threads properly. I also check them on a spare engine to make sure that they haven't been milled too much.

Why do this? To me, Edmunds heads are special because of their design. They have the spark plugs relocated slightly so they miss the exhaust valve, allowing the use of extended tip plugs (Champion L82YC and equivalent). All of the other commonly available heads have the spark plug situated above the edge of the exhaust valves. I have found that the use of extended plugs enhances the efficiency and performance of the engine. I have had the existing heads and plugs in my '51 since 2016 and have nearly 30,000 miles on them. The plugs still look perfect during their yearly check. The car starts immediately, runs smooth and has (I've been told) exceptional performance.

I am saving these heads from becoming "wall art" (or worse) and hope they end up in the hands of someone who appreciates them for what they are and uses them.

But I digress. This is a thread about rare flathead heads, which Edmunds are not.

the Canadian heads I have owned for over 50 years now on an all new engine I’m building to sell. The Waggott heads are Australian made and a newer addition to my collection.
