Shit... this thread is giving me flashbacks to other sites where guys get into pissing matches over "numbers matching" parts and correct assembly line chalk marks. I started coming here to get away from that bullshit. :D

To me this is oxymoron. A hot rod with airbags???? Customs, maybe. Airbags are a convenience, IMHO. But like everything else, get abused. Why do peole build something that it shouldn't be. Its good to push the boundries, but you have decide what yo want your car to be. Pick a period and build around that era. I perfer 40's and early 50's (say 1954 and earlier), based on what was going on in the mags and stuff. Good luck with the circus!

A handling compromise? I guess you missed this:

    http://www.ridetech.com/streetchallenge/index.asp

There are some big $$$ cars and trucks on a roadcourse getting driven hard... all with bags.

A well thought out, well installed kit will give you a good ride and is every bit as good as factory stuff.

Quote: Its 2006, how about we all try to stop being tough guys and gain some patiences with new members before blasting. In the long run it will only decrease the number of people who think the HAMB is an unfriendly place full of pricks

I think that is one hell of an idea! I have vinyl decal on the front of my 48 F1 that says Don's Rat Rod. I am going to have it in the basement of Cobo Hall. I wonder haw many fist fights I'll have to get into over that? I just can't seem to figure out why I should take offence to the saying? To me it's like the evening news. If ya don't like it turn it off!!!!!!!!!

it's easy to see that this thread is barely hanging on.

it's been just civil enough to survive thanks to the legitimate conversation

that, and some of the responses are far too funny to take seriously

Ok Talkfast now that you've been wooped like a poor stepchild, what exactly do you want to do with the truck.
We know that you want to get it as low as possible.

Around this bunch 40 Ford pickups rate pretty high full fendered and pretty much in their original form just as they have with hotrodders for the past 68 or so years. There are probably photos of a brand new one towing a lakes modified to the drylakes in 1940 somewhere.

If it were me I'd lower the front end, probably the dropped axle and spring trick,
put my choice of not so expensive but reliable drive train in it, get it running and drive it while I worked on the body a bit at a time.
You could get it running and get the brakes and whatnot in shape w/o the dropped axle or reverse eye spring If the flathead is in it, fix it or trade it and it's attending pieces for something you can use.
If you keep it simple and don't get caught up in buying this and that or don't blow a bunch of money on some engine combo made of unobtanioum you should have a nice little truck to buzz around in without a lot expense and quite a learning experience.

Not sure why you bumped this back to the top. I think you had a good start and got some decent replies back when you originally posted but still decided to take the truck in a direction that really isn't traditional at all.
