Anyone tried the aerosol Metalflake paints? Duplicolor has a silver I was going to try on some interior trim pieces. Thanks
maybe it is becasue I have no patients when it comes to spray painting but the kind i have used before ran bad. But like I said it is proably just me.
Moepower shoed me a piece of PVC that he rattle can flaked and cleared...nice! One of the HAMB cars at Autorama had a bit of trim done this way and it looked good...
..........you can either use a spray can or you can't. Flake isn't the easiest thing to spray, but it does require basic spray skills. Rule of thumb?? Multiple light coats with a little time between to allow the paint to set up. You can't just pour it on... Here a cycle tank and fender I just did with rattle cans..........
We did a fundraiser that involved custom pedal cars from Speedway Motors. Couldn't find a photo of the suede car with awesome pinstriping. My wife found some great metal flake at Hobby Lobby that we used on several cars. If anybody is interested, I have a complete portfolio on how to to put on a fundraiser using pedal cars.
I have a helmet that I shot flat black with metal-flake lime gold so-cal scallops. I got the rattle flake at a model/hobby store. I thought it shot nice and easy, I did get one run but I was able to blow it out. Wish I had some pics of it, great color.
Any opinions on a clear to use with rattle cans? I did my Honda 750 with a rattle can and I think it turned out nice, the problem is fillin up the tank the fuel eats thru the clear pretty quick. I think I used duplicolor paint and clear. Anybody know of a clear that protects more like the "real clear"??
I used rattle can metal flake gold on my latest bike and cleared over it with urethane. Worked great.
Could somebody go thru the steps of doing a rattle can metalflake job? I.e. primers to use, clears, prep and so on?
I've used a bunch of the seymour spray and then cleared it with urethane from a spray gun and it's kickass and seems to hold up well but I haven't tried pouring gas on any of it! I've had bad gas while painting and it hasn't affected anything either.
The Seymour paint is an acrylic... I always figured they wern't as durable as a laquer. I think I have read topcoating an acrylic with a laquer can cause problems. I don't know if I have seen a urathane rattle can top coat. http://www.seymourpaint.com/index.cfm/products/?id=157#additional_info
WOW... I'm not alone! I've been thinking of doing rattle can scallops on my car, but I was to ashamed to ask. So what about a rattle can clear coat. The only ones I've ever used were polyurethane (sp?) from home depot and the stuff turned yellow. What's better?
There is also some cool stuff that auto air put out. Youll have to get an air brush or a touch up gun but the stuff looks good and you can shoot real clear on it with no ill effect. There are candys and translucent paints, flakes of all colors and a ton of cool colors. The seymor paint is pretty cool to I like the blue and the red .
...........I used the Seymour primer, a Duplicolor base of Emerald Green, the Seymour "Sun Burst" flake and their clear. I ran out of clear. I would have liked to done a couple more coats. I was afraid to mix clears??? Neat paint to work with though. DRAMATIC effect..............
i'M Conidering doing my roof, and i brought up the topic with a guy i work with and he said it might not turn out right on a large space like a roof becuse it drys quickly and you would see each section you painted, True not true?
I dont know about that it dose have some overspray issues I had a lower half of a pannel come out like 100 grit while the top was smooth. I'd try a test pannel with some real clear first. It would probably work I'd just shoot the first coat real dry. Also those asking where to get it reread this thread and youll find your anwer.
That Seymour paint is some awesome, durable stuff. My Dad gave me some cans of the Industrial gloss black from his work. I have painted a few pieces for my Triumph with it and it looks great! Not cheap - but you get what you pay for. I'll have to check out their flake...
Based on this thread, and particularly Skate Fink's photo of his own experience with the paint, I ordered some online today. I first called to see if any local companies sold the paint, but they didn't carry any Sun Burst. I ordered through the Seymour online store. They currently have an option in the "spring specials" category to get two cans of color and one of clear for $24. You don't really save money, but that seems like a good amount to experiement with (instead of perhaps buying a case of 6 cans). I got two kits -- gold and red, and will report back after some experimentation. Thanks for discussing this so that we can all benefit!
are the Seymour spray nozzles the same as regular nozzles, or are they better to reduce overspray? say if you wanted to do something as big as a roof on a car?
