I have a 65 Fury that the prior owner rattle primered over top of the stock paint (its been on there at least the 2 years I've owned the car). The primer is not coming off the original paint, and the original paint is not coming off the car. I'm currently welding some patch panels and trim holes up and would like to get this car on the road before winter strikes. In any case, I don't have enough time/money to strip the entire car, prime it, and then bc/cc it. So here's where I am at. I'm looking at Blitz Black, and also looking at Kirker paint (which will probaly look a lot nicer for not much more). Acrylic Enamel or Urethane seem to be roughly the same price. I do plan on going over the car with sandpaper obviously and most of the primer may come off then, but I'm not sure. With the Rattle Can Primer am I stuck with the Blitz Black/Acrylic Enamel or can I shoot the Urethane Single Stage? I'm not really sure if the Urethane would pull up the primer and original paint. Also, is it possible to successfully shoot a Metallic Single Stage for your first paint job with a bit of practice?
go to lowes. in the paint section they have a graffitti remover in a tan colored bottled. it about 8 bucks but it will take the primer off and leave the stock paint. give that a whirl.
