Well, it's halloween, so it seems like a fitting day to ask about my spiders. They look cool, but sure are embarr***ing as they rattle going down the street. The base does not get tight on mine under the lugs...should it? The holes are larger than the studs, so the lugs do not tighten down onto the bases, but are rather trapped behind the hex of the lugs....if that makes any sense. The bullets themselves do tighten onto the base, but the base is still rattling around at the lugs. Do everyone's do this?
They pretty much fit like ****. Can you use longer screws from the cap into the plate which would pull the whole thing out and tighten 'em up a bit?i
What about putting an O-ring under each stud hole of the Spider??? Or maybe after, but before the lugnut.
Remove the spyder ring adapters and reflatten the holes. Clean the area of the wheel and Reinstall but this time use a few dabs of urethane glue between the wheel and adapter and the adapter and lug nuts. Let it set overnight and they should be OK
A harty bead of sillycone on the back, around each hole. Let set overnight, then put'm back on, problem solved. Ive never used glue. So who am I to say that wont work also.
Sorry, I thought this might have meant barking spiders. Come to think of it, I guess they rattle too! Tim @ www.irrationalmetalworks.com
Ha Ha!! Don this car ain't got no radio! Thanks for the tips, guys. I like the o-ring idea best. I can see the glue or silicone, but like the idea of something I don't have to clean up at some point. They are pretty new spiders with less than 100 miles on them and have rattled since day one. What struck me right off was it seemed the holes in the base plate were too big and the lugs barely catch them. Thought about the longer screws, too, but hated the idea of those screws rubbing the chrome on the wheels. I'll try the o-ring thing and let you know how it works.
