Technical RAW CASTING TO MIRROR FINISH, SCOOP PICS < INSTALLED

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by mad mikey, Mar 7, 2015.

  1. I got this scoop to replace the stacks on my 471 blower. The scoop was a raw casting, but fairly nice casting. I sanded the casting down with 100 grit and cut the roughness down. Then worked it over with 120, 240, 400, and 1500, wet sanding. Then buffed and cut on the wheel with a cutting compound, and then finale polish. I think it will look good on the coupe. Not bad for 2 hours work. What do you guys think? $_57 (1).JPG WIN_20150307_194645.JPG WIN_20150307_194701.JPG

I know how much work (and how freakin dirty) getting cast aluminum to look that good is..
I spent many hours and lost my fingertips doing that to my Triumph 650 cases...
    Worth it though..
    That scoop looks great!

If you find polishing parts rewarding, invest in magnesium wheels. It's possible to reward yourself every week!
Mad Mikey - is the scoop set up for a filter? It's gonna look good on the coupe.

Looks like one of Ritchies by the looks of it, he makes nice stuff

  25. Yes. Its a Ritchies scoop. I am painting in between the finned area to match my valve covers. The scoop is set up to use a 6 inch filter.

  26. Thanks guys, for the kind words. Here are some pics of the scoop on the coupe. I still have the stacks and like them, but changed to the scoop for now and more air flow for the racing season, that is coming up if winter ever quits! LOL.
