While I don't agree with everything, I appreciate the great gains that have been fought for my safety by the union in which I'm a member.

It's sad, but most people don't TRUELY give a shit until it affects them.
If your not part of the solution, your part of the problem.

    Damn proud

you hit the nail on the head. when the middle class thrives money makes it's way to the top but when the money is distributed at the top it is where it stays. look at the bailout just think if every family got $25,000 instead of the banks getting billions bills could have been paid homes saved and economy saved. when the middle class gets to big the top 1 or 2 % get nervous

I have to hang with FAB32 as I had a similiar experience with a union. Made me realize the only guy that cares about my future is me. I planned my life accordingly. I live by the moto I can not change what happened yesterday but I can damn sure change what happens tommorrow, and I always think before I leap. My fathers favorite saying was "Its not what you earn its what you save".

Worked in a ford plant and damn sure wouldnt want to work there without a Union. The strangest thing when I hired in there how many men had lost fingers and hands. You try working on an assembly line and tell me they make to much money.Lets see you put 30 wiring harnesses under a dash an hour laying on your back under a dash all day long.Or run a lathe allday fighting hot chips jumping down your coveralls and some boss on your ass wanting more parts.Mandatory overtime,2 days off a month,10 hr. a day.Without a union they would slave you .I wish everyone had a chance to belong to a good union. If they did they wouldnt be so easy to down them. When the people of this country wise up and buy American support your own is the only way out of this mess.Buy Union and Buy American.

i dont see the unions as the sole problem. i see EPA regulations and abuse of local government power as a problem.

alot of manufacturing is over seas right now because of the EPA regulations. so basically its not ok to polute here, but is just fine to produce more polution making the same product over seas by slave labor.....and still regulate us into oblivioin

and because of my job, i've been in meetings with city officials, who openly talk and joke about using EPA regulations to pressure someone out of business, or pressure them into a sell position with their land because the city has future "plans" for that parcel of land......either more houses....more comercial center...whatever brings more taxes to their city....the coruption in this country is just like a third world country......

I started this this thread just to let you guys know that (one of) Hot Roddings pioneers (He brought safety belts into racing and made it just a little safer) former company that he worked so hard to build, was another victm of the economy and that 290 additional families would not have that income that they needed to survive.

In the last 20 yrs we have lost major aeronautics companies to mergers and high real estate, same goes for GM and the plant that my 69 Camaro was built in.
They call that place the plant, I doubt they employ the # of people that 2-3 shifts that GM did in its hey day.
Same with Lockheed It's an out door mall as well very close to an indoor mall.
Any one ever heard of over building? It would have been nice if they would have put a nice automotive manufacturing concern on both of those sites that way the union would be able to stay in effect there.

Much of this has to do with speculation by developers with these projects, but if you take away the job that pays for hair pin radius rod, well then there is no reason to build U.S. Speed Shop. no one will be able to pay for the part. I'm only using the above as an example, but it happening all around us.

Being self employed is dicey at times, but just like at any job one works, if you don't work, you don't get paid. I thank all of the HAMBers that have purchased our products, They're made here, you keep many people working in different fields from the ad people to the foundry to the heat treat to even us and Cook's and I truly appreciate your patronage.
